So. It’s time to report on the work progress for our "small" addition to "Iris quest." On the damned “Dungeon”!
For simplicity’s sake, we decided to compare what has been done with what needs to be done, and to put it is some form of approximate percentage.
1) Gameplay. 80% Everything is moving (sometimes even where it needs to move), blinking, and doesn’t crash every minute. All that remains is to finish the AI, add one other game mechanic as well as, of course, to clean up the large but rare glitches and a bunch of some minor bugs.
2) Art. 70%. It could’ve been more, but the remaining 30% consists of all manner of accumulated small things (large pieces of art are almost all already done).
Plus some other thing (such as icons and objects), of course, will have to be drawn after the gameplay is already finished.
But in general, we’re done with the art part, for the most part, so we can even afford to draw illustrations for this report.)
3) Russian text. 90% of the literary part is nearly completed, mainly the technical texts remain: item descriptions and the like. Something which again will be appended after the gameplay part is done.
4) The English text is 0%. Which isn’t surprising. We’ll translate the text when we finish with the Russian text.
5) Music and sound. We’ve already found everything and matched and mixed where it was necessary. All that remains is to stuff it into the right places in the game. But this is a minor thing unworthy of a percentage.
Something like that. In fact, we are on the home straight. So don’t wish us luck, but rater just a little bit more strength.

Every Mass Effect game has an unavoidable flaw, a different one for each game. Luckily, the stuff that doesn't suck is usually strong enough that the game is still good.

You need the renpy SDK. The unpacked files are all it takes to make a ren'py project.

You can just put the "game" directory into your projects folder and launch it from the Ren'Py Launcher. You don't need anything not inside the game folder. Ren'Py Launcher can also build for for many platforms.

You do not need to build or repackage anything to run a renpy game. To make sure your code changes work you can delete all the rpyc files and it will recompile. That's not usually needed though.

There are decent RPG Maker games out there. AZL, Tara, Fountain of Mana, Dark Lord's Trip, Aylia's Story. When a RPG Maker game has no unique assets and is designed poorly, the engine is not the problem, the developer is. Switching to a different engine will not make the developer better.

I wouldn't say that SU is a very good example of Unity in general. In fact, everything SU does could be done in Renpy, and with no real loss of functionality. SR7 and Smoke say they don't like how Renpy handles animations, but it's not like SU has anything more involved than flipbook animations as it is.

SU and Soldier's Life being in Unity doesn't showcase much of what Unity can do, i.e. 2D/3D animated gaming. It's perfectly fine to make these games in Unity, but they aren't a "good demonstration" I don't think.
