Problem?

How about the fact that the deity get khis icks out of being wanted, and as such consider WW1 the ideal place to farm faith? Because it is more important that people suffer as much pain and loss as possible, to encourage them to pray for aid?

That the only reason he is so pissed off at modern society, is because people are too content and not crying for help enough?

You are missing my point. The deity is a sadistic fucker who enjoys letting suffering happen as much as possible to innocent people, in order to encourage them to pray.

The deity is using suffering to farm prayer. He is CAUSING bad things to happen. He is worse than an uncaring god, it is in his best interests that humanity suffers as much as possible.

No, you are ignoring the issue. The issue is that the deity admits that he has no empathy towards suffering, he considers human suffering an ADVANTAGE, that the more suffering there is, the happier he would be.

Salaryman is fairly asexual it seems, though in one of the mini-episodes he made an offhand comment about Viktoriya being attractive enough to garner attention from the men.
I don't think they actually care about having sex, probably tied down to the 9yr old body not going through puberty yet.

He had been a female for ten years at this point. Also, his male self is literally dead. It's not like he has a male body to return to. Tanya had accepted that she is now a girl, it's just something Tanya got used to.

Viktoriya at this point will follow Tanya to hell. She might cry and shake in fear while doing it, but she would follow.

I consider Tanya to only accept a relationship, of any kind, to be acceptable if she is top dog. This might be enough to keep all the WW1 era men away.

He'll be straight, but let's be honest. When he comes of age, he'll be sleeping with anyone to advance. He's like those corporate women who will do anything to get a promotion in the most efficient manner possible. They're not bad workers, they just make the best use of what they were naturally given. He'll do the same in his new body once it's of age.

>When he comes of age, he'll be sleeping with anyone to advance.
Sleeping with people is NOT a reliable way to advance. Doing that only assumes the guy would hold up his end of the bargain, which is no guarantee. Tanya has enough skills to get promotions that doesn't rely on people keeping their word.

So basically the wing members thought: we have the element of surprise, why give it away?

Tanya thought: International laws are important, but I'll let the girl do it so that they don't take it seriously

Others: (stare at Tanya) We're really going to expose ourselves?

Tanya: (saw the stares) Oh, wait, I AM the one who sounds least credible (proceeded to warn in a kid's voice)

Others: Wow you're really good at acting

So one of those misunderstandings. So much for show don't tell.

Basic summary is that it gives Tanya all of her motivations and adds another layer to the plot that is unpredictable (Being X). Also without the twist the entire story would have to be written completely different just because Tanya would need entirely new motivations.
>>
>>153199885
The show is actually about two fags having a shitflinging contest against each other, with Being X trying to make Salaryman's life as hard as possible with little intervention and Salaryman trying to be defiant by actually succeeding.
>>
>>153199848
Half the story is the value dissonance between a modern Japanese corporate manager and early 20th century European officers
>>
>>153200040
Ok, that is easy enough to pick up from just watching. I thought there would be more to it that I missed.

I mean its not that bad of a extra plot, I just don't think it was really needed. Plus it begs the question, if God wanted him to understand being weak and powerless why make him naturally the most powerful mage?

Personally I think you could get the same personality from Tanya just from personal hubris and the desire to advance coming from being a convent orphan with nothing.
>>
>>153200210
>why make him naturally the most powerful mage?

>>153200210
So she can use the brainwashing orb. Of course, going around using a powerful magic artifact that makes her pray when activated means the other imperial people who witness her achievements become more fathful. So Being X basically uses Tanya as a religious propaganda machine

>These days, they want to be criminals more than they want to commit crime.

It's a criticism of people who are entirely focused on outward appearance rather than what they truly believe, essentially a reversal of the natural order of cause and effect. How it should work is "I don't believe in a higher power, I'll say I'm an atheist"
How it does work is "I want to be an atheist, I'll say I don't believe in a higher power"

Sometimes one need to know the difference between knowing a deity exists, and the realisation that worshipping it is an entirely separate matter. Those who talk about "fedora tipping" tend to be under the assumption that they need to bend their knees to a god automatically, whether the god earned it or not.

That was kind of my point. Here in America we some how manage to stretch our less than 250 year history into several years of courses, while the 10,000 years of the rest of written history is only briefly examined.

However, while I'm sure that 250 years of any nation's history could be suitable for an in depth course and study, the problem with the study of history in American primary schools is incredibly shallow, covering only the cliffnotes version of each event. History classed barely build off of their predecessors instead being forced to retread the same segments of history over and over. It's sad really.

Not really. There were big events in history that went on to influence things long after they happened, and a lot of empty space in between.

For example, could you say there was anything meaningful that happened in Japan during the Tokugawa Shogunate, from the end of the Warring States up through the Restoration? It was 300 years of pretty much nothing of note.

US History is pretty dynamic even though it's a young country. You had the revolution in the late 18th Century, pioneering expansion throughout the 19th Century, a Civil War, the Industrial Revolution, World War I, the Roaring 20's, the Depression, World War II, the postwar and Cold War where the US was the major player.

If anything, the part of US history that's worthless has been everything since the start of Clinton to now. 30 years of very little accomplishment.

Except those disciplines are also tied to history. Most of your early experiments in Chemistry, for example, answered basic questions Chemists of the 19th Century were trying to find out. You also need to understand history to see how certain theories, like the Bohr model of atom, arose and was obsoleted.

While the problem solving aspect of Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Math is not directly comparable to History, memorizing equations, transformations or specific molecules useful for reactions uses the same skills.

You could really say the same of Europe over the same time period, and European events had a far more global effect than anything that was going on in America at the time until WW2.

I think America has a pretty inflated sense of self-importance since WW2, before then we were a backwater of little relevance to anyone but our immediate neighbors.

>If anything, the part of US history that's worthless has been everything since the start of Clinton to now. 30 years of very little accomplishment.

Pretty much, but life in 1776 was like another universe compared to 1976. A 200 year period for any particular European country at any random point in history wasn't going to have the same amount of difference, due to the sheer number of changes.

Combat in Europe didn't change for a 1,000 years following the fall of Rome. The Roman Square was still as effective as it ever was in the hands of a pro army, until firearms became practical infantry weapons. And even then, smoothbore firearms remained the norm for 300 years until rifling was commonplace. And then, it took only 94 years to go from rifling to the atomic bomb.

when i'd study history, it just made me think that instead of idolizing these great people and their time period, i'd be better served learning the subject they excelled at which got them remembered by history. learning about the industrial revolution for example caused me to think my efforts would be better placed in learning mechanical engineering behind the revolutionary inventions rather than knowing the year they were invented and their impact on society.

>useful math and science is learned in the science and math class. i'm talking strictly of what is taught in history classes

That is more a problem of the focus of history classes. Historical perspective is almost always a welcome supplement to whatever fact you are learning, because that fact didn't just come out of divine revelation.

If you are a military officer, a comprehensive evolution of weaponry from the arrowhead to the warhead is useful. It's possible you might find yourself in a situation where the only technology available to you is pre-13th Century.

For doctors, they often have to rely on case studies (historical examples) for diseases when they can't understand the mechanism of action or root cause.

You said the only history that was useful to you was industrial+ but you are applying history for math and science too. It's just a different focus.

The line separating fascism and communism is incredibly tenuous, in practice, generally the only thing separating both will be the rhetoric and, partially the symbolism.

And depending on which case communist government, differences are almost nonexistent; the authoritarian rule and ban of any kind of opposition, the great leader and his personality cult, and also the militarism and nationalism, which almost all communist countries used to control the population.

At least the actual nazis actually threatening our democracies do some actual effort to not look the part, but anyone cosplaying Tanya or one of her cohorts would get kicked out of any con for blatant display of poor taste. I don’t care if it’s “The Empire” in stead of Germany and the 1920s in stead of World War II, if it dresses like a Nazi, decorates its Reichstag like a Nazi and spews disturbing propaganda about “patriots” defending the “fatherland” like a Nazi, it’s a fucking Nazi. You’d think anyone with half a brain would realise that, but then again, these are strange times we’re living in. So yeah, nazi expies, big fucking whoop. Considering that the Empire in Youjo Senki occupies the territory of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, German Empie, and Poland after the 2nd partition, it would stand to reason that there would be a fairly large slavic influence from all Pole, Belorussians, Czechs, Slovaks, Croats, Bosnians, Slovenes, and Serbs with in the Empire, so the slavic sounding names should be expected.

>Humans need hierarchy to organize properly. A clear command structure and line of authority is crucial for organizations to operate efficiently.
>Democratic elections select rulers based on popularity rather than talent
>It's preferable to have a government that governs well rather than one that simply reflects momentary public opinion
>In-group identification is powerful and allows for high-trust societies
>High-trust societies are less suspect to the tragedy of the commons than low-trust societies

So I got a theory.

Here is Tanya displaying MSR at the tender age of a few days. It takes normal children until they're a year and a half old for this to occur.

I think that Tanya basically roided out her brain from the intelligence she brought with her as a salaryman. The intelligence allowed he brain to grow in such a way that she developed that intense potential for magic.

There's no way Being X would give her that talent considering her getting into the military was against his intent of her living a pious, uncomfortable, and powerless life. Preserving her intelligence was an oversight on his part.
>>
>>153218196
Preserving her entire personality was the entire point.
>>
>>153218196
>There's no way Being X would give her that talent
But it was a part of his plan. He perfomed a miracle that allowed Tanya to use her operational orb (which forces her to pray and slowly takes away her sanity). Tanya's wild chase for comfy life will eventually turn her into religious mad(wo)man and I think we can call it Being X's victory.
>>
>>153218196
You think?
Considering Being X wanted him to suffer and survive in a not peacefull enviorment.

Considering he was born as a orphan in a country that conscipts mages into the military there was no way around it.

There was a reason why she said she "had no other choice" but to join the military.

In the end because of her having magical potential she would be FORCED to get into the military sooner or later.
>>
>>153218283

Yes, but I mean, he didn't take into account that you can shape the young brain from internal/external stimuli, especially at the absurdly young age of a couple days.

Tanya has the potential to be far smarter than she was as a salaryman, not just because she has salaryman's experience and intelligence, but said intelligence allowed her to develop a more powerful brain than the one she originally had.
>>
>>153217437
>You will never be abused by two old men

Truly a living hell
>>
>>153218350

Being X interfered a second time because his initial plan was going awry. Tanya had secured the safe job she was looking for and he used the jewel to create an excuse to move her back to the front lines.
>>
>>153218196

Giving Tanya a talent for magic would create an unavoidable path to war due to conscription or in other words no matter what path she takes further hardships await, what Tanya did to circumvent this was to take the initiative and enlist and undertake officer training asap to secure a higher up position rather than get conscripted.
>>
>>153218350
>But it was a part of his plan.
The orb was a deviation from his original plan, it was a necessary adjustment.

>considering her getting into the military was against his intent
Not sure about that, there are better times than an all out total war if you want to put someone into plain poverty, without them going into the military. Once the draft comes, they may even be forced into it. I think life in the trenches is very much the kind of terrible situation that can make people cling to their faith.

I agree though that her becoming an unstoppable attack helicopter sounds like it wasn't directly his intent. Even without the military, a powerful mage is unlikely to spend their whole life in poverty.

But the plan was to throw Saladman into dire straits and see if he starts believing. Logically it doesn't make sense since being x doesn't do godly things in general (or pious people wouldn't die horrible deaths) but giving her magical potential was part of the plan since it means she would have been conscripted into the army.

Saladman turned being X's original plan on its head because he volunteered instead of getting conscripted, which is more favorable to those in the army.

Lovecraft sort of addresses this, in that he wrote stories where creatures that are CLEARLY evil, and clearly a threat to humanity, still end up with human worshippers, because some humans would just worship anything regardless of if it deserved reverence or not.
