Get in here
>Literally Metal Heroes the anime.
>Likely a fun, upbeat police anime with a bro duo fighting crimes.
>No fucking highschool insight.
This shit is AOTS material, right there.
>Action was pretty good
>You like toku?
She already has the best ass of the season
Kazari a shit
I liked it, pretty good 1st episode
Kek this is amazing so far
This is like some fun and not edgy mix of psycho pass and tiger x bunny.
>audience surrogate character is scheming girl with delusions of grandeur
>main guys are bickering buddy cops
>unit full of weirdos in a giant police train
>power armor mecha stolen by two teenagers livetweeting their crimes
>mission gets delayed because they might have accidentally caused an anime studio to lose power while rendering CGI
>police have to blackmail a politician to get shit done
>that fucking bit at the end with the backpack-deployed nudity-shielding tent
10/10 first ep I didn't even notice how bad the CGI was.
Shizuka Ishigami makes me wish I didn't have ears.
>All that dysfunction and bureaucracy
>MC getting ignored by everyone
I loved it. It did look kind of cheap, but as long as it doesn't go full Twintail levels of QUALITY, I can deal with it.
Don't forget to separate your trash, /a/
Holy shit, Tanigushi is back to save anime
Damn that was so bland. The only thing I liked was the music. There is absolutely no effort from the staff to make you care about what's going on. None of the characters seems interesting so far. Even th CG was bad for Orange's standards.
It's a comedy. There's supposed to be low stakes, especially at the beginning of the show.
I found the characters pretty amusing with their gimmicks. They might become less one note later, but I like their starting points.
CG was meh though.
>crazy Metal heroes
What's crazy about them?
>bound by stupid laws and authorizations
Is this supposed to be interesting when the only thing their boss has to do to disregard those laws isto call the big bosses and threaten them with a bad joke?
The faces are so sexy, including the guys.
I hope the lolis get some play later on.
>Doujins would be nice too, but ideally she'd get an extra small suit or something.
She'll get a suit, but chances are she's going to useless either way. It's kind of part of the joke, I think.
Why? What purpose does her being a minor serve to the narrative other than making epic no alcohol "jokes?"
It makes her feel more like the young rookie. And her not being allowed something while her co-workers enjoy it makes her seem like a kid, like she isn't responsible while every one else is. Which is a fine set up as she will most likely try to 'catch up' throughout the series.
Also age is just a character trait, it doesn't have to "serve the narrative".
STRIP GLASSES, ON!
Since I'm an extremely oldfag, this reminds me of Chon Senshi Borgman mixed with ADPolice. I found it funny aand worth a watch, but the real question is: how long till the animation quality goes to shit?
Damn, thats a lot of shit to wear.
I like most of her songs, but this one was fucking terrible.
>Wendy from GunXSword with Yurika from Nadesico's spirit and intellect
Active Raid being bad is my favourite meme, because you just know the only people to believe it are obnoxious pricks who need every show to be an intellectual masterpiece. The kind of people who overthink what's going on to dissect the show and shit on it on the internet to look like a tough guy instead of just having fun
That was a weak start, the first episode doesnt feel like its the first episode, nothing hooking me or make me looking forward to the next one. Pic related is already annoying as fuck.
>character with the gimmick of liking to seperate trash
well that was bad but still entertaining and best first ep yet, better than limbo breasts anyway.
I liked them twisting the meme of the chaotic action group that rescues the day but causes collataral damage into them being super bureaucrats asking permission for everything and obeying the laws to the letter, though.
Trash sorting as a defining character trait is still shit, however.
I'll add some explanation This has already delivered on it's promises of lighthearted fun buddy cop power armor action
CL's next episode catchprase was "join us on this adventure" (or something like that) however there was very little adventuring being done, with like half the show taking place in the initial town
Moshi moshi, moe desu
They're an experimental unit like they said, their gear must be top of the line prototypes, so for once rather than get curbstomped by basic units they can actually stand up to even modified mecha.
Higher power special police models that are still considered highly experimental and top-secret. They even work directly with the production companies, having one of their techs on the team.
I liked it, The MC is really annoying also her random Engrish outburst the fuck is that about?
The two bros are great but the real saver is the OST that shit was fucking great.
The MC needs to change her ways quick because it's already annoying and we're only 01.
I want to fuck the AI.
I also liked how she was aware of the PoV of some of the members and made it look like she was sitting on the shoulder.
I want her to bite me.
Excuse me, Boss.
I want Haruka suiting up and launching at least once. The OP doesn't show her suiting up and taking off, but she herself stated she configured the launch system for her to sortie as they didn't know how long until Kuroki would show.
This brings me to another question though; I wonder if the entire team minus the mechanic could possibly suit up and deploy. Would be kind of neat, even if it's just a last-episode thing like in S1 of Gatchaman CROWDS.
I was not expecting this at all. I came into Ep1 only knowing it was Taniguchi + the original announcement art. I'll keep watching though, since it's an original anime who knows what will happen.
>All them bystanders getting wet over a police Willwear bringing down the hammer.
I wonder if the next episode will mention the police suddenly gaining a following on Twitter just for more Willwear action, and the complications it would cause the police if they actually disbanded the special division.
Well we already know one of the girls has her own unit so Haruka suiting up could easily happen.
>Ironman police squad with cute female MC who speaks in random english occasionally and wears a suit
Sign me the fuck up
I liked how the engineer somehow determined she was new by her angle width, and managed to coolly block her retaliatory kick with his tablet. Must be his standard greeting too, since everyone else was used to it; not even bothering to comment on it.
you're gonna get your wish, checking anidb and the main site the mech previewed here >>135799619 is linked to her, it's called the Fine Familia.
God dammit Tosh.
strongly considering dropping this right now
I'm not sure what she said here, but it was not "What". I'm keeping up with this show just for the engrish.
A Metal Hero anime?
Someone in Japan loves me
>implying this wasn't stupid as shit
THE FUCK did you just say to me?
The best kind of stupid shit.
This series is awesome. Cutefus, handsome husbandos, JUSTICE, metal hero cops fighting power armored perpetrators, armored railway police transports. I already like it.
Post your favorite Metal Hero.
Some parts were funny, but not those parts. Those parts were funny if you're 10 years old.
Also can't wait to see the "transformation sequences" every week, that's 2 minutes less to animate.
So, Tokyo is sinking in a big quagmire. Also, I bet they will have totally forgotten the pickpocket girl in their transport traincar.
What year does it take place again? 2035, right?
Red is hotblooded. Blue is the obviously cool dude. Also, if one of the girls is also going to be power armored next episode, I hope they're going full super sentai.
I like trash-guy's characterization.
>Go easy on them, they're minors.
>I HAVE DETERMINED YOU CANNOT BE REASONED WITH.
He's a little better than just the average cool character. He clearly has emotions and opinions that he is in touch with, but he doesn't let them get in the way and he knows how to be friendly when appropriate.
>Red is hotblooded. Blue is the obviously cool dude. Also, if one of the girls is also going to be power armored next episode, I hope they're going full super sentai.
Hopefully even the section chief ends up suiting up and showing the rest of the team how shit's really done.
I'd expect Madoka and Boundary to be the only ones to not suit up; the former manning the computers and the latter on standby to unlock their limiters as needed.
I didn't like it but I don't hate it but it just felt flat, loved the main girl and I guess the characters range from solid to ok, but aside from that nothing else was really memorable. The CGI looks like shit, as expected from nips, that ruined the action scenes for me but the story seems interesting enough. I'll give it a couple of episodes.
Engrish was cute.
>Also, I bet they will have totally forgotten the pickpocket girl in their transport traincar.
Doubtful, as much as they're called "garbagemen" it seems that just because they break DA RUURUS and piss off bureaucrats but otherwise they always get the job done. I'd say if anything she'll be a recurring blue collar crook that gets mixed up in their cases every now and again, maybe even net them a big fish later.
Let me rephrase it for you autists.
CGI anime is always terrible, there's no need to show any better CGI because first I'm lazy as fuck and second it wouldn't matter since it would also look like shit.
This show was fun, I just hope they don't play the bureaucracy angle every episode to build tension because then it will be very boring.
>y-you are retardeeed! stop disliking what i like!
Don't make me turn into cross Ange.
It probably won't always be like that, but let's be honest, unless the criminals somehow happen to get their fingers upon experimental super military grade willware (totally calling out on such an episode happening for sure), the ACTIVE police troops ought to be the always-superior forces. There needs to be something to keep them in check so that the bad guys can look as if they do have a chance.
So Police-Pink is the by-the-books girl. Interesting. Normally, Pink is the sensitive girly-girl. Then again, she is the youngest, and she did blush at seeing Red and Blue nekkid.
I guess blue-haired girl will be Yellow.
I wonder if Green will be the section chief.
And then there ought to be an obligatory superspecial and/or mysterious White or Black who occasionally comes to their aid and might or might not be the chief.
>excuse me boss
Those are quite the skirts
Thank god they brought the battle to the conveniently empty building ward.
Best girl. I can't get enough of her eyes and feistiness.
I don't know any Metal heroes should I feel bad?
>I don't know any Metal heroes should I feel bad?
Yes. Yes, you should.
Holy shit, that's terrible. I like Orange, love their work here and in Comet Lucifer, but that Fafner clip you just posted? Ugly as shit. Those blood spurts are just awful.
Sort of glad I didn't waste time with it now.
>ari ozawa doing a serious voice
Calm down penis, calm down.
Oh yeah, fun episode.
I agree but I think it'll only be a longterm issue if they're constantly putting the episode on hold just to constantly remind the audience what these characters are about by having them reiterate in excessive detail their background and motivation.
Not to mention all that legal shit. You don't need to read the ROE out loud, people get how cops are supposed to act.
Personally my biggest fear? This time limit/out-of-fuel horseshit becoming a recurring thing.
>you're gonna get your wish, checking anidb and the main site the mech previewed here >>135799619 is linked to her, it's called the Fine Familia.
Why do I have a feeling one of her weapons will involve a whip
>This time limit/out-of-fuel horseshit becoming a recurring thing
Without such an element, the cops would be unbeatable.
It's like Ultraman. He can only stay ultra for a short time, or else, he would just make short work with all the monsters.
That was really fun. It had all the sillyness I like from toku, and the characters seem likable enough, it'll be nice when they get fleshed out more. MC was pretty cute too, can't wait for her to suit up next episode. Chief was best girl though.
What's happening here is actually very elaborate. See, this is the shot before the can bounces off the General bin and into the OP's thread bin. Thus confirming that any chance of regular activity in Active Raid will be dead after this initial airing thread.
I don't think that's really an issue. It's like saying Superman is unbeatable because a thug off the street can't beat him by shooting him with an Uzi and he should need to constantly recharge his solar cells hourly.
The story simply needs to involve situations where the problems make sense to the protagonist. You're not deploying these guys for normal patrols or to stop shoplifters and other petty crime. These are guys in power armor that can shoot lasers and fly and have super strength and whatever, they should be handling issues that are relevant at the level of power they're dealing with.
Left or right
The conflict this episode did make sense for the protagonists, since the regular cops clearly couldn't deal with them. The MCs just have significantly better suits than pretty much everyone else. Of course a villain with a stronger suit will definitely show up at some point, probably the final boss of the first cour.
One problem is that they're going to be deployed after they find out that willwearing criminals appear. Gives ACTIVE the time to analyze them and prepare their own Oscar-troopers for the situation.
Also, having the guys and the girls then become nekkid after so-and-so-many minutes of fighting is for fanservice.
That and their entire unit is based around testing experimental technology, but at the same time they have to deal with a fuckton of redtape and executive meddling from the top.
Check out Winspector, and there's also Janperson as well.
>complaining about undeveloped character
>WITH ONE EPISODE
Just drop it if you have attention span of squirrel
Hell the guy in Active Raid from episode is way more appealing in comparision, he's a confident whipsmart operator who can back up his tough talk, how you can even bitch about him is beyond me.
God that was shit. Awful writing and they waste the premise completely. It's just a shit superhero show.
You'd think cops + mecha would create something worth watching, like Patlabor, but nope. Biggest fucking disappointment of the year so far.
I'd watch an entire series of just the main girl in the office going into internal monologues about how awesome she is, only to get shut down by reality a few minutes later. I loved how they handled her character.
And next week, MC will get half-naked and choked.
So uuuh... she's really, really sexy.
>The choking thing may be a bit much but who the fuck cares.
Thankfully Escaflowne the Movie will always reign supreme as "how the fuck is this a good idea" for starting up a mech
She sure is
I liked it.
I liked it a lot.
Just a reminder that Chaotic Century >>>*
In the movie it injects, and by inject I mean stabs into your jugular and runs off your blood.
I really like them too and I was going to say their lips reminded me of Love Live but I just checked the character designer.
Did she said wrath? or rat? or rawr?
Meant to post this but that pic isn't bad either.
Everytime Japan screws around with English like this I just remind myself there's probably a bunch of US shows butchering nipponese just as aggressively, but goddamn at least we're not using some kind of synthesizer.
It doesn't seem like a show many people will stick through with. I'm hoping everyone drops it and we get comfy threads with toku fans.
Maybe by some miracle it'll be popular in Japan, but I doubt it.
I ain't trusting any restaurant that has a fictional girl shilling for it inside the restaurant. Fool my ass twice.
I was watching Daredevil last night and the lady who was supposed to be a spanish-only-speaker was murdering the language like you have no idea and I'm pretty sure most english speakers didn't noticed.
>implying you weren't gonna spend it on KFC and McDonalds anyway
give it up, geekboy.
>Active Raid first cour will be sold as a BD box. Each volume will contain 4 episodes.
Holy shit, did someone forget to tell Japan you're only supposed to put one episode on a BD?
Wow, 9 minutes in and the music is already pissing me off.
Anyone who supports jazzy shit needs to be gassed.
This. It reminds me of Glasslip when it showed glasses bitch reading "Exile and the Kingdom."
We get it, anime writers. You went to university.
>Permission for Phase 7 denied
>"Well, it'd be unfortunate if I spilled the beans on the mayor's secre-"
I like where this is going.
It won't come out as a BD box. It's one BD volume that contains four episodes and comes with the normal assortment of bonus goodies.
Quite pricey, at 12,5k yen.
On the other hand, this means only 3 BD volumes. That's actually not a bad deal at all.
Sometimes it builds personality to show what kind of stuff a character reads. I think it's too early to complain about it, they might be going somewhere later with this guy's characterization.
>Sometimes it builds personality to show what kind of stuff a character reads.
Nah, it's just lazy. It's the anime equivalent of saying your Sonic the Hedgehog OC likes all the same bands as you.
Looks like everyone is paired, nice
It's the same thing as having a baseball bat in a character's room for a background shot, or any of the million scenes in anime where a character mentions that they like One Piece or whatever. It's ridiculous to have a problem with this type of presentation because you'd have to find similar issue with all other characterization through means of possession or preference.
It's shit if they have a book and it just means that they're smart, yeah, but if we find out that this dude spends a lot of time on existential musings, or it happens that he's fluent in French one episode, then this shot will have more purpose in hind sight and it'll make it clear that there's a lot of craft in this anime. Hell, if we find out that he doesn't even understand the book he's reading but he just collects fancy books and wears glasses to look smart we're getting something out of it.
I thought it was generic until we hit the ending where the main 2 guys strip down to their speedos and the "villains" of the episode weren't turned into a fine red mist.
A nice easy drop, and only 1 episode in.
>this blind hate for CGI
Because IMS is known for doing great non-CGI animation, am I right? Oh wait, they aren't. The CGI might actually be better than them trying 2D given their previous attempts
I mean, CGI complaints may have a place when the studio could have pulled off something better with 2D but didn't because they wanted to be cheap and/or lazy. However, IMS isn't know for having great 2D action.
It took a while to get going but the setting and characters were worthwhile. It was a very realistic war anime in that it didn't play to thematic setpieces and ended with a cease-fire and an unsettling last-minute reveal that left you with a mood of uncertainty.
If you like that sort of thing then it's an enjoyable show but don't expect it to follow drama conventions.
>Japanese CG is bad because I say so
You sound very convincing
Why IS Japan so far behind the west when it comes to CGI anyway? I figured when it was starting to get big around the turn of the century they were about on par but 16 years on it feels like Japan is lagging behind, and never took notes.
Yeah, Japan never had a monstrous behemoth like Disney throwing their weight behind Pixar, but shit, they made Final Fantasy Spirits Within the same year Pixar put out Monsters, Inc. The FMVs they make for video games are pretty alright too.
But you make them do CGI for a TV anime and it's all stiff and twitchy, to say nothing of the low FPS which just exacerbates the problems.
Good CG is expensive and most anime production budgets are tight as fuck. This may be a dumb example for some people but how much money does Marvel/Disney throw at their movies CGI? And even with all that money and work spent, sometimes it looks pretty shit. Now, we're talking about studios that are a much more smaller trying to implement it, results are obviously going to be bad.
Western TV cgi isn't much better.
The best one was the Clone Wars TV series and that took Georg Lucas personally funding the show out of his own pocket.
I really don't get what's generic about this series. It's in kind of an underplayed genre in the first place, and it definitely plays the genre conventions pretty straight but I'd say it's within the acceptable bounds of playing safe.
The female lead is a very unique character who we get a lot of right off the bat, and her newcomer dynamic is totally different from anything I have in memory. We don't have much of the two male leads but both of them seem to be more than meets the eyes, red seems to actually be very alert, and while he does stuff that looks hotheaded he seems to have a clear plan behind what he does. Blue looks like the calm character but he's got a showman side to him, going for trick shots and having a firm line of his own between when someone has to be reasoned with and when they need to get taken in.
The red tape element gives it a different dynamic to most henshin series and everyone in the department has a pretty clear personality drawn for them.
I don't know shit all about CGI and what makes it good or bad, but no one in this thread seems to walk to talk technicals.
What the hell is so good, or so bad about the CGI? It looks serviceable to me.
