Many things, cape comics now a days are pretty much fan fiction and the writers are always trying "push new boundaries". Too bad, they aren't very good at execution.

But I wouldn't blame everything on the fanbase: the publishers own pretty much everything and are certainly able to veto things they don't want, and push things they want.
I'm not saying a shounen magazine is devoid of powerless or influence, but you can certainly feel the greater creative freedom for yourself.

Yes, in the 50s and again nowadays. Comics are by far the western media who suffers the most from modern social inforcement, since they are too niche to escape from it

Those are people who treat characters not as part of the stories, but as "toys" who must always be there and be the same. If a character dies, they don't treat it as part of the plot, but as a toy who "broke", and so they rage hard about that.

Even if you compared manga to comics, manga makes incomparable amounts of cash to comics in the first place. One Piece alone on a good year makes like a third of the profits the capeshit industry makes so there's nothing to dispute.

I don't neccessarily think that's the case, I think there's a serious problem with oversaturation in the Capeshit universes but stories like Coming Home, No man's land and Watchmen prove that there is hope for capeshit (even if all of those were written a while ago now)

Well it's tough to say since she's a joke character. Like Saitama, the whole reason she exists is to be unbeatable and presenting her with a threat she couldn't handle would ruin the joke. Though a logical argument could be made that Squirrel Girl beating Demonbane wouldn't even be funny in the first place, so her joke-based powers have no effect.

While I have seen some of this happening in manga, it's just really rare in comparison.
Maybe not a risk economically but then you slap the Marvel logo on anything and it will sell. The point I was trying to make is that the writers of some capeshit aren't afraid to alienate fans to write a good story.
I'll dig any other type of western comic any day of the week. Fucking Donald Duck comics? Hell yeah. But I tried multiple times to get into capes and it's just fucking impossible for me.

I've actually thought about this a lot.
There are certain genres that are common in Manga and Anime that just can't be pulled off with most western comic industries.
It's not like books where people expect to see varying kinds of stories, people are generally tailored to believe the only type of comics out there are cape comics, and if you want anything else you should go foreign.
As far as I know there's no western moe, no western SoL that actually fits the definition of "SoL", no school life or anything, though that only extends to America, I'm sure Europe has better luck with that.
Inversely, there aren't really any genre done in the west that can't be done just as good or better in Japan. I mean, most west things get a Japanese adaption anyway, so they're pretty much on-par and above.
I'm just glad, that in all of this, they will never truly win. Japan will continue to make whatever they want.
American animation was already dead for the most part, so while it's sad, nothing of value was really lost.
