The anime is set after Joan of arc's death IIRC, and while it certainly isn't perfectly accurate, the only glaring inaccuracy I noticed were the gambesons having holes at the armpits, which means that they were probably based on reenactment replicas made by people who didn't know how to sew them properly.

You are aware that the Battle of Crecy took place in 1346, and the anime is taking place after Jeanne D'arc's death (1431), right?
>>
>>119682429
It takes place in the later stages of the war. Wich was pretty much perfid albion getting raped 24h/24h and not wanting to conclude peace on France's terms to stop the war because they were too buttdevastated to realize they no longer had any chance of winning.

Haven't watched the show yet, but I don't see anything inacurate here, unless it's supposed to be about a famous battle.

What bullshit, this is during the reign of Henry VI being a pacifistic moron whose weak and ineffectual leadership eventually brings about the War of the Roses, but in France his and Beaufort's policy of trying to bring about peace fails spectacularly as the French realise that with such a king they can get back their land and then some.

Probably not--cavalry was still very useful and practical until the lines solidified, so until the battle of the marne ended and both sides dug in, the cavalry most likely still played major roles, after which they probably just got rid of the horses and served as infantry thereafter.

Most witches in the middle ages were men, so there's that.
Think less Buffy type and more modern African witchdoctor. You know, the kind that chop up albinos for rituals. To cite a much later popular example, seven of the accused witches put to death at the Salem Witch Trials were middle-aged men.

The whole modern witches-as-medicine-women idea was created by amateur anthropologist and folklorist, Margaret Alice Murray, in 1917. Her idea's were capitalized on by Gerald Gardner, founder of Wicca in the 1940's. And that's how people now think witches were female pagan healers persecuted by a heavy-handed church, instead of creepy neck-beard nut-jobs selling curses.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

German, French and Belgian cavalry played a major role in the opening actions of World War I, and cavalry was extremely viable (and used extensively) by the Russians, Austrians and Germans on the eastern front. During the Polish-bolshevik war cavalry also played a pivotal role.
>And by WW2 they served no purpose at all.
Soviet cavalry played a major role in the Russian theatre, and Polish cavalry with horsedrawn AT guns were quite successful in the early actions of the war.

Why do people say the hundred years war was England vs France?

It wasn't. It was House Anjou vs House Valois. It just happened that among their titles, House Anjou had the Kingdom of England.

Both sides had French and non-French allies. And both were French families with good claims on the throne.

The war was decided mostly on who had the strongest French allies (IIRC, Burgundy and Brittany) and had the Anjou won, what would actually happen is that King of the French would be their main title.

You are aware every single major nation, regardless of equipment, had organic cavalry at the outset of the war, and some of them (Germany and the USSR) still used them at the end of the war? Germany was hardly "under equipped" and they continued to use cavalry as late as 1945. The Soviets, who by 1944, WERE capable of making as many tanks as they damn well pleased, still actively used cavalry. They were still an effective method of combat.

The Reconquista had quite a bit of intrigue between the Christian states and even within the Muslim invaders (mostly conflict between Berbers and Arabs). There were even times of cooperation between Christian and Muslim leaders to ensure peace.

Spanish territories at that time was actually formed by several kindoms. Portugal was just a county that revolted, succeeded in becoming independent and ended up being successful in war against its neighbors, even against the Spanish.

The age of discoveries was a different time-period altogether (but still somehow linked by certain events). It would also make great fiction fodder.

Russia after 1944 had more than enough access to raw resources and had the industrial power to motorize themselves, given they produced more tanks than anybody in the whole war. They still used cavalry because it was still effective.

It's not, the Russians were fighting a desperate retreat to the gates of Moscow. Stalin didn't properly anticipate the German Invasion.

>Clear out a set amount of cities and fortify then when winter ends move forward.
And who is going to feed those cities? Russia will burn every farm and uproot every track from here to Vladivostok, and if you rely on supply convoys deep in Russia you're just asking to be cut off and starved to death. Fortifications can't beat hunger.

Southern Europe too.
Witchcraft was a capital offence in pre-Christian Rome and Greece. Most pagan societies outside of the pre-Columbian Americas didn't tolerate witchcraft.
Only now that we've reinterpreted what witchcraft was into a friendly, neo-pagan, feminist Hollywood version, do we approve of it.

The following links to contemporary cases can give you insight into what actual, historical witchcraft was really like, and why even a lot of pagan societies banned it:

It helps that most of the German High Command was just as surprised as the BEF and French when Rommel and Guderian broke through the ardennes as fast as they did. Everybody (French, British, German, Belgian) knew the war would be fought in Belgium (that's the job of the maginot, to allow a proportionally small force to defend most of the border such that the majority of the French Army could fight in Belgium), almost all of them were just surprised exactly where.
>>

The fact that the enemy hasn't thought of it yet doesn't mean I shouldn't be prepared for it.

The third reich was economically a series of
>fuck, we're broke!

>fuck, we're broke again!

At first they could get away with doing things with peaceful annexations like Austria, Sudetenland, Czechoslovakia, and then with forceful annexations like Poland, BeNeLux, France, and the rest.

The currency thing was in part due to the Germans desperately avoiding a repeat of the Wiemar mark hyperinflation. This was done in part by bullshitting and in part by obtaining the gold reserves of the annexed/conquered territories.

The Maginot was meant to include the Ardennes and the Belgian border. But the engineers said Ardennes was low priority since interwar tanks would have had trouble going through dense forest, so that area was not nearly ready. (ironically, the French horse cavalry was there)

Wouldn't have helped them much anyway. The French high command was still running on WWI time tables. It would take them 48 hours just to figure out what was happening, and 1 week for a proper counter-offensive. That put them on a huge back seat against the Wehrmacht, who could plan, organize, and execute a new attack in under 24 hr. It's how the Nazis did so well in the early war, when the still had a bunch of panzer Is (AKA a tractor with machine guns bolted on)

It's questionable. The regular army portion of the French Army was not spectacularly large (the rest consisting of one-year conscripts which the French high command mistrusted profoundly), and France didn't have the bombers to provide air support. The BEF hadn't arrived yet either, so France would effectively be going it alone, fighting a war much of France wasn't sure it wanted to fight.

The reaction image exists purely because so many idiots like you seem to be completely incapable of understanding what character development is that it summarizes the argument so it doesn't have to be typed out every single time. Vinland Saga is the story about Thorfinn growing as a person, not a story about Thorfinn murdering everyone he meets.
>>
>>119695716

You do realize the ending of Vinland Saga culminates in Thorfinn failing to establish peace with the natives and is driven back home right? Or do you think so long as he tried and it wasn't personally his fault that the relations got ruined, his ideology is totally correct? Because that's basically advocating even the losers should get medals.
>>
>>119696253
The series isn't over yet, don't know why you're talking about how it ended. Yes, I realize that's how Thorfinn historically turned out, but in case you haven't realized Vinland Saga is not a 1:1 adaptation of actual history, and for all we know the author could just flat-out abandon history so that Thorfinn's ideology does prove to be right.
>>

>>
>>119696497
I haven't said shit about whether or not the message was correct, just that the message is what the series has been very clearly building up to since day 1 so complaining about it is pretty stupid. It'd be like going in a one piece thread and complaining about 'friendship'.

There is some serious reading comprehension issues at your end man. Nowhere did I say the series isn't still enjoyable, I just pointed out the best character got knocked out while everyone else was still one dimensional.

Farmland barely makes Thorfinn 2D. And very shonen moralfag 2D while we're at it. We basically have to wait until he fails before he gains a bit of depth and realizes the world isn't so simple you can just keep taking punches and the other party will eventually give in.

Don't mistake that as the series not being interesting. I'm looking forward to Merchant Saga.

The Second Punic War is the one with Hannibal and the Alps crossing.

It's perfectly tuned for anime pacing too. Focus on Hannibal's journey for the first part, with flashbacks to his dad in the First Punic War for action and character building. Most of the big battles are total routs because of tactics and general's personal issues. Jump to Roman politics shit when they're using the Fabian Strategy, dictators, and pissy senators. Then jump down to Carthage for the killing blow. It would be great.

Oh yeah, Italy was doing really bad in the war, to be fair, after they invaded Albania, Libya and Southern France, I don't think they did much. Hell, I even think that the Desert War was the consequence of an Italian fuck-up, much like the Battle of Greece. I don't really think that Mussolini could do anything on his own when faced with an actual opposition.
Honestly, I think that Mussolini was the one who was most concerned by how the Allies were gaining land in Africa. The coup itself was motivated by the fact that Mussolini removed people whom he felt were more loyal to the king than to the regime. I think that the Allies had already bombed Rome at least once before Mussolini got dismissed as Prime Minister and arrested, and that event happened about a month before the end of the Campaign of Sicily.

The War of the League of Cambrai might be the most confusing of Great Italian Wars when it comes to shifting alliances, but really, when you look at all of them, all the plots going on at once, and all of that over a period of half a century, and in the end, France didn't get what it came for, that's really interesting.

I've always felt kind of bad for Mussolini. He was the first to make fascism seem like a viable option to the failing democracies for the time, but had the misfortune of being from Italy, a nation that was industrially behind the rest of central and western Europe. Gets snubbed by France and the UK when he tries to deal with Hitler and ends up having to be the junior partner to his junior.

And then when the Germans overshadow him he rushed into a battle he knew Italy wasn't prepared to fight, gets bailed out by Hitler (three different times), a person he disliked, and then gets set up as a puppet regime before abandoned and virtually lynched.

If he'd played his cards a little differently he could have just gotten away with being

>drove him off the island without siege ever being laid to their capital city
He never planned to siege Rome, his plan was to burn rape and pillage everything outside the walls of Rome, which he was successful at doing.

>followed him across the sea
He was forced to go leave Italy not because he was losing, but because the other Carthaginian generals defending the homeland managed to fuck up at every possible point. If he did not return to defend the capital Rome would have taken it.

>defeated him in the field

He was ordered to fight that battle by the Carthaginian leaders even though he knew it would end in defeat. Later after the war when Carthage was forced to pay reparations to Rome all the city leaders broke out in tears, except for Hannibal who literally laughed at them in a "I told you so" manner for making him fight that battle.

> destroyed his civilization, genocided his people,

After the defeat, several of the shit tier generals and a few nobles that wanted Hannibals wealth Carthage sent word to Rome that Hannibal was raising another army, the Romans came looking for him, he fled and ended up taking poison to prevent capture.

With Carthage's only competent general dead, Rome deiced to go wipe Carthage off the map.
