What do you do when you run low on space? Do you buy more hard drives? Delete some series? Burn them to DVD?
I am too poor for the first, and no longer want to do the second. What's the best way to burn my animus to a DVD without too much quality loss?
I have an almost limitless supply of DVD+Rs I will never stream.
tfw 4TB HD as well as 4TB external HD
I'm thinking about picking up one of those 4TB WD external cloud HD's as well
get a job or try your hand at selling drugs
They'll need another HDD case layout for this
since Perpendicular Magnetic Recording(the way you read and write from a Hdd) is at its limit. Only option is more dataplates in the HDD case
DVDs are super cheap, 100 for $5. find me a 500GB HDD for $5.
not that easy to get a job while NEET
nobody would buy ;_;
about half, yeah
I only keep things I will watch again
my local dealers would get mad at me for being on their turf
Can I become the MC of YuuShibu instead and get a cute Maou?
i just delete older animes that i havent watched in a while, or stuff i can get off netflix.
DVDs are also a bitch to use when you have 100 laying around and can break/scratch/just fucking stop working properly easily. Just get some cheap 1TB HDD, it's enough space to keep all your favourite animu.
>I'm going to do it
>I'm doing it
>All my backlog
>All currently watching series
>Everything I've archived
That was half a year ago. I haven't looked back. I now delete everything right after I've watched it and I don't download an episode until I'm about to watch it.
Fuck you, I've dropped 30+ series. Some shows are worth seeing through to the end if they have some redeeming factor. I doubt you've enjoyed every single show you've completed.
My 1.5tb drive was dying, so I migrated the data before it was completely ded, but I still lost a considerable amount of anime.
If you don't want to delete anything, how about storing Anime you're less likely to watch on the cloud?
Though, that may make it a bit difficult when an opportunity arises that you DO want to watch it.
>saving OP and ED clips
I hope you don't do this.
I got BSOD because of harddrive failure/overheat twice now
should I act fast and get a new drive? Or is my table-top fan able to keep things under control ?
I don't know what to do pls halp
More hard drives.
Occasionally I'll go through my collection and see if there's anything I can get rid off, since I compulsively archive anything remotely interesting or enjoyable I have a lot of stuff in there that's expendable.
Maybe you have a bad sector or 2, in my case i started having that problem when i got 17, till the point i couldn't log-in in my account using windows 7.
Get HD sentinel, run test, pray.
They're literally the only thing worth saving.
Just 150 since 2010. I watch all OVAs for the shows I watch and take my time. Deal with it. Also made the icons.
>not that easy to get a job while NEET
It's easier than you might think.
There are tons of shitty jobs out there that cycle away half of their staff practically every month, and many of their employees are the dumbest of the dumb, have been exceedingly short sighted in regards to handling their jobs, and have criminal records.
Take one of these jobs (dress nice, be positive, and show confidence that you can do job the right; if they're interviewing you, you have a chance) and hold it down for six months to a year. And get in good with your bosses. All you have to do is always do as you're told, make sure that you're always busy, and be smarter than the aforementioned idiots, and you'll be fine.
Then start looking for a higher paying job. You know how your bosses like you? Get them to give you a good reference. That goes a long ways.
Congratulations, you now probably have a paycheck that you could even move out on if you wanted.
</my story about ending my NEET period>
never had to buy new hard drives. If i add another one will it be a different thing or can i just add it to the existing one?
as in if i keep putting stuff in folders on my desktop will it fill both?
Raise your "Archival worthy show" standards.
unless you plan to rewatch it
or sharing it with friends, it's kind of a waste of space to keep everything you've downloaded.
If then you want to watch again something you don't have anymore, just download it again.
Exceptions for dead/hardly seeded torrents that takes ages to completely download.
External HDDs are not that expansive nowadays... Not to mention it's worth investing your money into.
For example, I picked up this one for only 50 bucks.
That said, you should also pick up a decent 2~3TB internal HDD as well for convenience. This again doesn't cost that much.
That's what most casuals do. I have a friend who only recently started watching anime again (he hasn't watched it since high school pretty much) and all he's done is watch old series he saw but never finished as a teenager. He's not really into new shows that much.
Comparatively, I pick up 15+ new shows every season and finish about 2 series a month from my backlog.
Out of the two of us, my friend is more typical.
Never buy an external as a complete package, compaines usually put worse HDDs in them since they're intended for the less techy customers. You can't expect the same longevity of performance, unless you know what's inside.
Buy an enclosure for your internal drives if you no longer have free 3.5" slots.
WD is a good company for externals, but it's still wise to stick to 1.5TB and under, because larger external drives are prone to failure. If you're going to buy external drives, then go with smaller ones.
Get a decent 2TB internal drive, it's worth the money.
That reminds, I've been hearing noised from this drive... Checked/scanned everything and now a single problem detected.
Not sure if I need to get a replacement or not but I've been using it for downloading torrents and such so I've abused it quiet a lot.
External storage is cheap as fuck.
I have 6TB in total including my other drives sitting on my shelf.
Literally found it in 5 seconds, with 20 seeders.
On BBT, it's not even properly subbed though (HK subs).
I'm aware of shows that can't be found because they're ancient, rare and not even translated but I'm talking more about shows that have been subbed.
I saw a 3 TB in the window of a pawn shop this afternoon, AU$169
What the fuck? I could buy a brand new one for much less, and from a reputable store. Should I go in there and try to bargain?
>not hoarding anime
You don't know the future, you don't know how available things will be or if you'll have internet. I like having local storage for my favorite shows and for shows I'm planning to watch, just in case I can't get access to them.
I keep a series on my harddrive until it's finished, and then I delete the whole thing. I store shows I plan to watch until I finish them, and then I will also delete them. If there is a movie or a short OVA that I really loved I might keep it on a separate harddrive.
>most easily available thing on the internet
you're an idiot who doesn't realise what most easily available really means. Just because you have so much slopped at you doesn't mean the part you're looking for is easily available you seee
Are you? If you can't find the pieces you particularly want, easily, then it's not easily available. You just have bogloads of it slopped at your screen.
Just because pornography requires a few keywords to type in and you're done? You can do that with fucking anything you idiot.
>I am too poor for the first
No, you're not. If you're living in NA or West Yurop, working as a pizza boy for a weekend will get you money for low tier HDD. Two weekends and you have 3-4TB. If you live in shithole country like me, 3-5 weekends depnding on what drive do you want. Do it for your waifu or harem.
I have 6TB, 3 of which is dedicated to anime alone, 70% full already. I'll probably get another 3TB HDD next year. All bought with my own money.
My 1TB drive is dying, gotta replace it.
>If that ever happens you're going to have way worse things to worry about than no animu.
What could be worse than that?
Op here, Thank you all for your help.
the 70+ replies of "buy more hard drives" were enjoyable, if unhelpful.
By no means am I saying to stop, please continue discussing. I enjoy watching people argue about things on the internet.
You're both idiots content with whatever slops are put infront of you with no meaning to what identification is on the slops. Why even bother trying to descend to the level of such boors..
Isn't it bad practice to go over 2tb for hard drives? I hear 3 and 4tb aren't very reliable.
>As long as it's not a green
Nothing wrong with this for anime. If you are going to be playing games or something, yeah, don't buy a green.
I just use an old machine and use it as a NAS box.
If you want specific porn, say PTS- series of japanese pseudo-massage parlours, then it's not freely available as there will be little to no places to get it. For new porn or popular porn then of course it's easy to get.
Please rephrase your sentence. I couldn't understand a lick of it.
What were you expecting? You either delete anime or buy more harddrives. You can't download more HDD space like you can with RAM.
100 DVDs is 400GB at best, more like 300 if you don't want them to be a mess. If series is 5GB, you have to burn it on two separate DVDs.
They're extremely inefficient to use because each series requires different DVD. The process of taking one DVD out of PC, looking for another, putting it in, waiting for it to be ready takes ages compared to clicking a folder on HDD.
Burning DVDs takes a lot of time. With HDD you simply keep what you downloaded.
Also, huge difference in reading speed.
I don't think anime is easier to find than porn on the internet. Considering the fact that there is easily more porn than anime on the interwebs. Additionally, unless you want to stream anime, it would require an extra step which makes it a little bit harder. You could say the same thing about porn as well but it is so much more abundant and it comes in many forms besides video. Porn is easier to get than anime. Yet both are easy to get. Quit being retarded.
It's not big. I delete almost everything after I watch it, if I remember.
I got a 3TB WD Black HDD when I build my brand new computer 5 months ago.
I buy more hard drives.
D, F and I are all only for anime. C has about 500GB of anime on it.
I had plex for a very short time. I found it really a pain to use as it would often mislabel anime in the collection. Also it would keep getting me banned from aniDB when it scrapes.
I have multiple hard drives, so I use libraries instead.
All of my 3 anime folders are in the same library. The first (132gb) is on my main 1tb HDD, the second (406gb) is on my 500gb one (which is full right now) and the last (45gb) is in my new 1tb
I have one of these loaded up with 3TB WD Reds in a hybrid RAID. Runs my torrent client 24/7, is super quiet and low power so I can turn my PC off at night. Also means I can access my anime collection from a fanless and driveless silent PC connected to the TV.
Unless you are in 3rd world country, you can DL multiple gigabyte in minutes with current internet speeds. So if i want to rewatch Madoka 10gb rip, i go to nyaa, start download, go to fill some tea at kitchen and when i am back to room its downloaded.
You realize atm you can watch anime WHILE it downloads?
Why store whats easily available?
Pity you. Russia here - Gigabit internet is cheap if you needed it. Most use 50-100mbit. LTE mobile connection allows to download and watch most stuff on fly as well.
>Why store what's easily available
How is it more effort to store a show than to delete a show and then re-download it when you want to watch it again?
Surely you don't live in such a third world country that you can't afford hardrives
>So if i want to rewatch Madoka 10gb rip, i go to nyaa, start download, go to fill some tea at kitchen and when i am back to room its downloaded.
I can't tolerate a seek time of above one second.
I burn my anime as well.
DVDs are dirt cheap, and each series gets it own sets of DVD, each in its own plastic sleeve then the whole thing in a dvd plastic sleeve with a printed cover.
It's a lot of trouble but I get a nice result.
And how do I know how many is too many?
Not him but I'm getting caution here.
I've been having random BSOD and I can't figure out the reason, I know it's not software issue and windows memory diagnostic tool check the ram and it was fine.
>drivers not updated
That's so wrong I don't even know where to start. I keep my NVIDIA drivers 2 years out of date precisely because you never know when the new drivers are shit and one in two actually turn out to be shit.
It's not wrong since when they got updated, my computer stopped shitting itself.
Stop having shit luck with drivers anon
>why does my computer keeping bsod'ing
>the drivers are only older than the card
How do you decide which shows to burn?
I have a bunch of 480p rips of Eva, Code Geass, etc. sitting in my closet. It's efficient, toaster proof, and will run on anything still alive after a nuclear disaster, but I feel like I should burn better quality rips instead.
>I keep my NVIDIA drivers 2 years out of date precisely because you never know when the new drivers are shit
Oh boy, you should be glad you don't run AMD. I can only run my 3rd screen if the thing is overclocked by 5MHz, any more/less and it flickers and turns off.
Well, usualy I delete some porn and JAVs, but now that 6TB drives exsist I may bite the bullet and replace all my drives soon
I answered to your shitty thread on topic. You want to provoke me into derailing your crap? Go do that yourself you shithead. I'm not in the mood for that shit.
It's much easier that way.
I watched a lot of shitty seasonal stuff to understand what I liked and what kind of stuff gets made regularly. I don't regret it at all, I exposed myself to new things and found new genres & shows I didn't know I liked, but it was stressful to keep up with that much so I have to cut back.
I don't have a MAL though, that's gay.
I'd wait a while before buying a 6TB drive. They'll probably have issues for a while. Especially if they're Seagates. Not to mention having that many heads and platters in one place with 'new techniques' behind them is asking for something to go wrong.
A while back I decided I would delete everything that I didn't think was a 9/10 or above.
I have tons of free space now and nothing was lost considering I would likely never have the urge to rewatch something that wasn't at least a 9/10 anyway.
>tfw waiting on a 2TB green for animu
and 2TB external for backup
Seagate are fine, I just take decent care of mine, I have had my 500GB for nearly 4 years and I got my 2TB at the start of this year and it's already nearly full.
Do you guys watch anime off of your externals when they are plugged in or do you just port a series from your HDD onto your computer whenever you want to watch it?
I just save it to my phone to store it.
I've never had trouble with seagate or wd, you just want to make sure you know what you're buying.
the 'eco' and 'green' drives people buy I'm pretty sure are the ones that break down the most, all because they wanted to save 5 bucks.
Deleting and redownloading the same crap repeatedly will kill your drives.
It really just comes down to how you treat your shit, you don't need to take care of a hard drive much, its just a matter of not developing bad habits.
These are just my favorite ones. New season stays in a different folder.
All my devices are named according to the greek alphabet.
I think that's why a lot of anons find they run out quickly since they fry the port. I usually just plug my drives in, copy a series I want onto my computer, unplug and delete each episode after I am done watching it and have the series still on my drive if it's good enough.
>have 2TB samsung seagate
>376d power on hours
>pic related is my old SMART test
>never lost anything
Why do that when I can simply have the list on my own hard drive? Don't ever have to worry about the site going down or any shit like that.
Also, retards always spammed me on MAL.
>you're taste is shit
I seed public stuff to 10.0 and then delete the torrents. Sometimes I'll raise the limit on individual torrents if my traffic is idle, though.
I can theoretically still get the data back, if I buy some particular kind of cable to connect directly to the drive
But hey, it's just anime, right?
Technically, it's not a Mac.
Burn the HDTVrip (mkv 1280x720 300 mb aprox) to DVD-R. I have 150 dvd burned whit anime. If a better version go out of a good anime, i reburn the dvd. And then delete them frome the pc or the external hdd.
In some point i have been spent more money buying dvd that the price of a 1 TB HDD (moar capacity that the dvd). But i can't whait for the money to buy one.
AT THE END. ALL IT'S ABOUT MONEY
PS:I'm from Chile (south-america) and the price of technologi it's very high
>Unless you are in 3rd world country, you can DL multiple gigabyte in minutes with current internet speeds. So if i want to rewatch Madoka 10gb rip, i go to nyaa, start download, go to fill some tea at kitchen and when i am back to room its downloaded.
Where do you live? As an Italian I have barely 3mbit. Downloading an anime movie or a series takes a whole night. Even many americans have pretty bad internet connections.
Still having to wait 20 minutes is quite inconvenient if I want to rewatch a part of a show. It's much better to have it on your drive in the first place.
>As an Italian I have barely 3mbit
I don't feel bad for living in Puerto Rico anymore.
I'm from a little piece of shit town at the end of the world, and i have 40mb to servers in the country and 17 mb to new york. YOUR INTERNET IS SHIT (as your waifu)
Take it out of the caddy and hope it's using a SATA->USB adapter. If it is you can just plug it in over standard SATA.
Otherwise you'll probably have to do a PCB/ROM swap if the thing is properly fucked which I doubt you'll want to do.
Embrace third world status, friend
The server it's at your side. Test some in USA like New York by Lime and then talk to us. By the way, in my own country i have same download speed (i'm from chile)
I'm jelly. The thing is, I pay for a 20mbit connection but the highest speed I've had was 5mbit. There's another ISP I'm going to switch to which will give me ACTUAL 8mbit (Vodafone).
>I'm from a little piece of shit town at the end of the world, and i have 40mb to servers in the country and 17 mb to new york. YOUR INTERNET IS SHIT (as your waifu)
I know, but there's just nothing I can do. Zero. No provider here could guarantee even just as little as 20mbit forget 40. I live in a medium town (25000 people) on the garda lake.
Does it power over USB or a seperate adapter?
If it's powering, that's usually a sign it's working enough to get it to acquire on the system provided the drive works if it's just USB. See if it's making any noises when you put your ear to it.
FUCK YOU FUCKING NORDIC. Only because you live in the better country in the world
Power cable and a USB cable, I can turn it on with just the power cable, so that's definitely not the problem
I checked both cables on another drive that uses the same kind of ports, they're fine
The feel of the third wold...
>Power cable and a USB cable
It's probably a standard SATA drive in an enclosure with a USB connector, then. Which is both good and bad because there's a chance that the connector has gone rather than the drive, but you'll actually need the cables to plug it up over SATA to test otherwise.
>better internet than most yuropoors
By the way, I have no datacap.
Depends on exactly how the drive gets protected. But yeah, you'd likely need some special stuff if it was.
If it still powers it might be worth your while to find some way of plugging it into a system.
Just hope it doesn't start smoking like some drives I've removed from caddies.
>another NL anon
That is true, I guess. I've been living up on the Northern Pennisula for work, so I've lost track of fiber service as it's not really up here yet for residential customers.
>New residents in the central west town of Mudgee are unable to access the internet, with no available ADSL connections. Telstra are also not providing internet cables for new subdivisions.
it's not like Finland can benefit from those speeds aside from anything in Finland.
I am curious though if I'd have a faster connection to a new york server than he would since their traffic would need to pass over the atlantic cables.
haha, yea I should say I am not super familiar with up there, I just know if you follow the trans Canada from corner brook to st johns you will be hard pressed to not have fiber. I say its avalible now, I think they even have it in labrador.
Picked a random NY server. Seems pretty fine for downloads.
Best result I managed to get from a bunch of west coast servers.
well that's certainly proved me wrong, even though you still got a pretty huge drop, it's still faster than I could imagine having.
Especially that damn upload.
Next file server I put money in for is gonna have to be based in Finland I think.
Welp. What should I do, just clone the drive onto another one? I have another 500GB drive of the same model that isn't doing anything.
Disrespecting animu with your winpcs. I propose a new strategy: delete windows, double hdd capacity
What distribution do you recommend where I can play most of my games and that isn't made by a bunch of retarded neckbeards and that's actually stable and doesn't require me formatting everything in order to get the next kernel because the old one was trash?
Yeah, I thought so. GNU/Linux and BSD a shit. Get used to it.
You sound like some high schooler that just finished an IT class and thinks he's an expert now.
Got 4.5TB, but I still got to delete stuff all the time. I only keep stuff that I may want to rewatch at some point; I only buy a new HDD when I stop being able to delete stuff.
Funnily enough I got over 1TB of hentai manga, but I rarely delete any of it; you can usually get some more fapping out of most hentai.
I really don't understand why people hoard stuff they have already watched. Once I'm finished with something I just delete it unless I plan on re-watching it right away.
For stuff I've seen long ago that I end up wanting to see again I just find and download it again. Hoarding shit just so you can post screenshots on /a/ and brag about your retarded "powerlevel" is incomprehensible to me.
Can anyone come up with an actual good reason to hang on to series you've finished? Especially mediocre shit you know you will never watch again?
It might be harder to find it or the website hosting it may have taking whatever series you've obtained down. I usually horde a lot of early, mid and late 70s along with 80s stuff for this practical reason.
Dude thats considered the minimal amount of shows that every anon has to watch. I have at least watched twice as much shit. The picture in question is less than 10 tb.
14 tb are 650 or so series so still maximum pleb.
Them both being shit, isn't. Windows having TONS and TONS more support for various programs, is.
I only use GNU/Linux when I'm developing for the sole reason that I want to have a similar environment to the server. That and the customization I need for this comes in handy sometimes. For anything else, I'll happily admit I primarily use Windows.
Thats probably without the FLAC quality releases of 1080p BDs.
However, it's still commendable that you downloaded about 600 releases while their still air. I always wait until the BD released are done and start from there.
That or you just watch medium quality releases.
Thats the problem with this board. I mean how can people be so elite on this board when they are infant-tier at best. It's like illiterate retards teaching on how to read a textbook.
The tragic tale of how anon thinks he is cool because he has no life.
Jesus Christ, for someone who allegedly used GNU/Linux I sure have to explain a lot to you in detail.
If you click one of the numbers above with your cursor you will be able to see a post. I made that post. Inside the post are a few sentences where I explain what my reasons are for using Windows and why it's useful. You then have to move your eyes across the text in order for your brain to break down the thoughts I typed for you.
After that you can stop spouting your shit because you don't know what you're talking about and you're better off being silent.
>For stuff I've seen long ago that I end up wanting to see again I just find and download it again
Good luck finding working downloads for not super popular shows. For some shows you cant even find downloads 2 years after they aired
What, you think that counts as a reason?
"Guys, tons and tons of software support."
And yet you couldn't prove the statement, even though it's clearly based on quantity. You couldn't even name on piece of software that makes Windows stand on top of any other operating system.
But hey, you can use Wine on Linux. Now it has tons and tons of Windows software and tons and tons of Linux software. 1+1=2. Fucking magic.
>who allegedly used GNU/Linux
Who alleged what and where?
>Fucking please, your taxes are so fucking low.
Point being we pay for the infrastructure of our internet with our taxes every year then the Telecommunications Bill gets renewed by giving the ISP's the money so they can maintain the lines and add new ones, then they "sell" it back to us at an inflated cost.
I'm more pissed at the fact I have to pay Comcast for access at all.
I have this thing OP, I fucking love computers. I came up on hard drives and then my ex brother in law came up on hard drives at the recyc center. They tried to glue the ones from the center but they fucked it up I picked that shit up formated the drives and that shit works fine, I got 4 TBs worth of drives that's free space plus the 820 full and the 2 externals that are 3 TBs total.
I like what i am seeing
season 2 never
I can't wait for the archival blu-ray's to come out so I can properly keep my shit safe without worrying when my HDD's will die.
My workplace recently got rid of it their old computers and said I could take whatever I want after wiping the harddrives.
Got 10 1TB 7200 rpm hdds, I dont even know what to do with so many.
OK, what this guy is getting at is that MS re-wrote the Windows kernel for NT (NT kernel) and every version since has been evolved from that and is distinct from the kernel from win 3.1, 95, 98, etc.
He's still a retarded babby "hurrrr i know some obscure technicality u dint i am compooter mastar"
>the NT OS
There is no such thing as "the NT OS". They're all NT operating systems. Windows XP is a Windows NT operating system. Windows Vista is a Windows NT operating system. Windows 7 is a Windows NT operating system. Windows 8 is a Windows NT operating system.
As expected of a Wintard. Doesn't even know what he's using.
I got my first HDD a few weeks ago. Before that, I had like 23GB of animu.
>it's extremely easy to figure out what you're running.
>What am I running?
Yes, this is definitely odd. Bizarre, even. I don't see the word "operating system" in there. How can that be when these posts should claim you are running "the NT OS"?
Obviously I meant this. If you can't even figure out that much I don't know what to tell you.
No. I won't be replying to this. There's only so much stupidity my brain can handle. When you start leaving out my first post is when I stop trying to argue.
>When you start leaving out my first post is when I stop trying to argue.
It's completely irrelevant. The OS question is not addressed at all.
And even if it was, you were still using a Windows NT operating system. Because all of the modern Windows operating systems are Windows NT operating systems. They even carry the version numbers.
No matter how you look at it, every Windows iteration after NT 4.0 isn't NT anymore. NT might be the underlying kernel, but like I said, that isn't the name of the OS. Otherwise we might as well also start calling GNU/Linux Linux. That's just the end. This isn't a whole big thing. It's just common sense. If something is called x by the company that releases it, it's not y. Just that simple.
>No matter how you look at it, every Windows iteration after NT 4.0 isn't NT anymore. NT might be the underlying kernel, but like I said, that isn't the name of the OS.
But it is the version of the OS.
Windows XP is Windows NT 5.2.
Windows 7 is Windows NT 6.1.
Windows 8 is Windows NT 6.2.
"Windows XP", "Windows 7" and "Windows 8" are just names to market the different versions of the Windows NT system to babies like you who don't know anything about the operating system they're using. Might as well think that OS X 10.7 and OS X 10.8 aren't OS X, because one of them is named "Lion" and one of them is named "Mountain Lion".
>NT might be the underlying kernel
NT is the entire family of operating systems. The underlying kernel is the "Windows NT kernel". Because it's the kernel of the Windows NT family of operating systems.
As expected you don't know how basic analogy works either. It would be closer to saying OS X isn't unix, which it obviously isn't. OS X isn't a kernel you fucking MORON.
I get why Stallmann gets so angry over shit like this. People just don't fucking understand.
I'm actually in the process of buying a bigger, external HDD just for anime/manga related stuff. I had to delete my 3DPD porn folder to make room for it on my computer, and now it's too much.
Sorry, you didn't retort shit. Could you try to post a reply again? Maybe address some of the points.
Also, why you're at it, please the train of thought here.
The initial topic at hand seems to be the kernel of the system. And as you seem to think "Windows NT" is a kernel (it isn't), why would you jump to say that you're not running Windows NT?
