1. No civilization ever survives to the point where they can create VR so good that the person inside can't tell it's VR. This seems unlikely given the current state of technology.

What this "" new"" theory that we are in a simulation is supposed to achieve is a lack of caring about yourself and your surroundings in order to further destabilize society.

For all we know this could be a dream of sorts, or deep meditation in order to learn more about oneself through fractional displacement of consciousness, creating an entire universe from a single "mind" in order to allow the individual to become something more by creating order in the chaos of it all.
