I am interested in doing studies in the paranormal, specifically ghosts/spirits/demons/djinn and related magic (such as astral projection etc).
Can anyone give me any advice from personal experience on what to stay away from? What doors not to open, what threads not to pull on?
For your troubles, i leave an image of a pretty girl.

I don't much fuck with spirits, unless they fuck with me first, so I can't give you any book recommendations but my advice will be to read up before doing anything. Fear will fuck you so if you're scared try to transform that into anger. Some basic energy manipulation and witchcraft knowledge should help, as well as keeping sage handy. Other than that, I'd say try to keep them out if your house. Threats of kicking them out yourself if they don't leave willingly work surprisingly well. That's about all I can offer you.

Like the herb? are there other herbs/ingredients you can recommend?

Would the back yard count? probably anywhere near my house wouldn't be safe but I figured I'd ask anyway.

Yep, burning sage helps get rid of unwanted spirits. They sell it in these little bundles you can just set on fire, but loose sage will work too, if you have one of those little carbon disks for loose incense. You can use it to cleanse your home if something decides to follow you.
Salt is also helpful apparently, there are other things too, but like I said I don't know much about the topic.

You don't want them lingering if you're unable to get rid of them. Basically the further away you do it the better. There's still a chance something might follow you, so you need to be prepared to deal with that.
I forgot to say before, stay away from ouija boards. Nothing good ever comes with them.
