Only because computers are hot shit, so people are immediately all like what if computers? We do the same thing every time. Wasn't the last one radiation? We sure found God down that rabbit hole.

Perception and reality may differ, but that doesn't mean reality actually has that much room to run wild. Your mind fills in the gaps, but without discipline, it won't know what to fill it with.

Work on the mind. The imagination if you will. It's what makes sense of the big picture, but most people are taught that we only use our imagination for play.
