The fractured ribs were from someone trying to perform CPR on him when they first found him. After medical people arrived, they used a defib on him and tried to jump start his heart.

Even if the person is pretty clearly dead, 911 tells you to try CPR anyways as a first action, usually while you are still on the phone with them. And Coroners have to record any visible damage on the body, even those caused by attempts to resuscitate.

Yeah, can confirm. Source, my wife is a CCRN at the local general hospital in the ICU and repeatedly tells me that when doing CPR, if you aren't cracking ribs and breaking the sternum, you are not doing it well enough to provide enough oxygen to the brain.

it was the door. He used the top door hinge, which you can rope a belt around when the door is open. It also supports your weight. He also used electrical tape around the neck to make sure there was enough pressure to still kill him, even after he passed out. Sometimes self hangings don't go as planned and people slip into a survivable position when they pass out.

The tape is used to affix an apparatus around the throat that will block the flow of blood to the brain. This allows you to painlessly fall asleep so you are not conscious while you suffocate to death

Once you pass out from the lack of blood flow, you slump into the rope, which takes care of the suffocation part, obviously.

Done correctly, it is the most painless and non reversible form of suicide there is. Besides a bullet to the brain anyways. Most do not have access to guns though and other methods, are, not as effective and you can be saved if caught in time.

In short, he knew what he was doing, and had looked up ways to do it the right way. That, or they had him killed for some reason.

How the hell do you hang yourself from a door though? His feet couldn't have been more than an inch or so off the ground, unless his legs were bent backwards.

Just don't see how it's tall enough to hang from. Robin Williams used a door too reportedly.

I have attempted to hang myself from a door. It works but it's a lot more agonizing then other ways.
Tried the bed and the coat rack in my cupboard; too.
