I've been noticing weird things in my apartment lately /x/. Strange noises, like doors locking, at night when I'm sleeping, it feels like my cat is jumping on my bed at my feet and I look up and nothing's there.
Tonight, I'm sitting at my computer and felt something tap on my shoulder. I thought it was my cat again, climbing on my chair onto my back, but I looked back and nothing was there.
What do I do here?

Since you mentioned your cat. Don't cats know how to interact with /not human/ manifestations? Maybe take a look at how your cat is behaving (if you have already taken a look report back mmaybe?)
Chances are it's just a benign beign so far. Maybe look in the apartment's previous owners (your family i'm guessing?)

Something similar happened to me a few years ago and it's still unexplained to this day. Some of it could be explained away as sleep paralysis and the hallucinations associated with that but when you're fully awake and feeling something touching you, if that's not also a sensory hallucination I don't know what it. If you suffer from migraines it could be because of that.

I think this sounds like a good idea, I've found that a regular kitchen knife works as good as any other knife when you need to look in people for ghosts.

Previous tenants were a couple living here for about 3 years. Wife was ok, but the husband was a redneck gun nut who always had his 45cal lying around the apartment.

Start investigating.
See if you can replicate the events, either by debunking or getting whatever it is to repeat its actions. Try and document with video footage. See if you can record some audio, maybe try and get some EVPs.
Try and get some friends in to check it out and back up your findings, so you know you're not just going crazy.
