Event horizen. 1997 u.s spaceship that warps through hell with crew onbourd. Another crew finds that they traveled through time. Spooned eyes n shit.
>>

Never Ending Story, 1984.

Kid learns that sometimes, living isn't worth it, as depression literally devours his friend in front of his eyes as he tries to find the will to keep going as an unstoppable apocalyptic force looks to shred everyone he knows, and loves, into an abyss of entropy. Whole movie, if you cut off the ending, is a nihilistic children's book put on the silver screen to show what the onset of adult life does to the happiness and innocence of childhood. Movie will leave you more jaded than if you read an Ayn Rand novel recently.

"A movie that really frightened them"

I think people overreact when they talk about movies frightening people. No, you're not supposed to be legitimately scared and afraid for your safety.

Fear from a horror movie means an unnerved feeling. You get goosebumps. You might think "ooo, that's really creepy!" You enjoy the movie and think it's really well done. That's about as "Frightened" as a mature adult will get from a movie, and I don't think expectations should be hire than that.

For me, OP, it was "A Dark Song."

Particularly the scene where she knocks on the floorboards and gets a response.

I find it astonishing that you named 5 films, all in which came out after the year 2000. The 2000's wasn't exactly known for it's quality horror films yet you somehow managed to name five. I have to question your age due to your shit taste in horror films. Either that or you're literally new to horror. Over 80 years of horror films and those are the ones you chose.

VHS 1-2 are good the other one is not really bad but not the same type of horror (or really horror at all)

Trick R Treat was ok at best

Try some really good ones though

What difference does it make. It doesn't matter what your age was or what year it is now. ANY movie is available to you, but you chose to watch hunks of shit instead of legitimate films that are highly considered to be great horror movies in the community.
>Oh but let me just post some trash like "It Follows" where the (scary) scenes are just people slowly towards you or "Sinister" which is downright bad.

Any older horrors I can think of

The Thing - spooky on a chills level

Children of the Corn - The fuck did I just watch?

The Exorcist - Only spooky because I'm Christian, shit and blood scenes just grossed me out

Th1rt33n Ghosts - Own on DVD but haven't watched yet, surprisingly.

Butterfly Effect - Only remember up until the scene where someone burns a dog, I guess? And even then, I still don't get what the "Bufferfly Effect" even is... (yes I know the definition)

It (original) - pretty spook
Carrie - Not to sure if I watched this one, but Steven King is a fucking legend.

The Shining - Pretty spoop. Ending made me laugh.

Friday the 13th - Based on series, I liked it. Newest just confused me and made me wonder if it was the same writers.

Nightmare on Elm Street - Why is it a nightmare slasher? That just seems weird to me.

I dunno I think "fright" is accurate enough because it implies a sudden intense feeling, which one might get from a jumpscare or something in a film. "Terror" would be overreacting because it implies more extreme fear (like fear for your safety, like you said).
