Can we get a good old fashioned real life mysteries thread going?

>Joseph Daniel Casolaro was an American freelance writer who came to public attention in 1991 when he was found dead in a bathtub in room 517 of the Sheraton Hotel in Martinsburg, West Virginia, his wrists slashed 10–12 times. A note was found, and the medical examiner ruled the death a suicide.
>His death became controversial because his notes suggested he was in Martinsburg to meet a source about a story he called "the Octopus." This centered on a sprawling collaboration involving an international cabal, and primarily featuring a number of stories familiar to journalists who worked in and near Washington, D.C. in the 1980s—the Inslaw case, about a software manufacturer whose owner accused the Justice Department of stealing its work product; the October Surprise theory that during the Iran hostage crisis, Iran deliberately held back American hostages to help Ronald Reagan win the 1980 presidential election, the collapse of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International, and Iran-Contra.
>Casolaro's family argued that he had been murdered; that before he left for Martinsburg, he had apparently told his brother that he had been frequently receiving harassing phone calls late at night; that some of them were threatening; and that if something were to happen to him while in Martinsburg, it would not be an accident. They also cited his well-known squeamishness and fear of blood tests, and stated they found it incomprehensible that if he were going to commit suicide, he would do so by cutting his wrists a dozen times. A number of law-enforcement officials also argued that his death deserved further scrutiny, and his notes were passed by his family to ABC News and Time Magazine, both of which investigated the case, but no evidence of murder was ever found.

Happened 52 years ago, and the murderer has never been found. Happened only 5 minutes drive from where I live. Basic rundown:-

>2 female friends go to beach with one girls younger brother and sister
>pretty windy, so they all go to the end of a beach where there is cover
>spend the day there, have a picnic while there
>one of the girls wanders off for a while, into sand dunes
>comes back a while later
>both girls wander into sand dunes later on, leaving younger kids by themselves
>younger brother sees both girls talking to guy who is ~18 yrs old
>aren't seen again
>younger brother and sister wait around until ~5pm
>end up going home, girls reported missing at 830pm
>police obviously get involved
>guy and his son are walking around/near sand dunes at later date
>see something sticking out of sand dunes
>turns out to be a hand, thinks it's a mannequin, tells police anyways
>turns out to be both bodies of the missing girls
>one had died where they were found, other had been killed and dragged 35 metres back to other body
>killer is never found, even though case has been reopened several times, and DNA samples were taken off a pair of jeans of one of the girls
>were also 2 other murders, one in Menai, which is 15 minutes drive from Wanda Beach, and Heathcote, which is ~25 minutes drive from Wanda
>police think all may be connected

Pretty crazy, and it still gets brought up every now and then by locals.

Forgot to add, one of the girls also had different food in her stomach to what they had been eating on the day, and also traces of alcohol in her system.

And at one point, another person had seen them walking back towards the beach, in the sand dunes, whilst in a hurry, with one of the girls constantly looking over her shoulder.

Died from fire, her body nearly cremated by temperatures that must have been above 2000 degrees. Aside from the chair she was sitting in, nothing else in her apartment was burned.

There's no phenomenon that genuinely wigs me out more than spontaneous combustion. The strangest commonality are the ones whose skulls are somehow shrunken by it.

>On the morning of November 16, 1982, Kemp's car was found abandoned with its engine still running, on a ramp off the I-80, 40 miles from the nearest town.[3] The car was so full of belongings that there would have been no space for anyone except the driver.[2] A single pair of footprints in the snow led investigators six miles into the wilderness to a barn, where they found a pile of sticks arranged to start a fire, and three of Kemp's socks. There were no footprints leading away from the barn, but Kemp was nowhere to be found. Nearby, investigators found a duffel bag containing laundry soap, clothes and a teapot, all of which belonged to Kemp.[3]

>Due to the solitary set of footprints, the lack of space for anyone else in the car, and the featureless terrain which should have enabled searchers to easily spot a human being, investigators believed from the outset that Kemp had either disappeared of his own volition and did not want to be found, or was mentally unstable. Deputy Rod Johnson stated: “I felt the guy was disorientated, and I felt that he didn’t want to be found. If he would’ve wanted to be found, he would have heard the aircraft, could have waved his arms, got our attention, gone up to a ridge, anywhere, and been sighted.”[3]
Three days after Kemp's disappearance, there was a blizzard and the search was called off. Everyone involved in the search agreed that if Kemp was in the area and not already dead, he would have died in the blizzard.[4]
>Several months after Kemp disappeared, Judy Aiello, a close friend of his from New York, returned home from an extended vacation to find six messages on her answering machine featuring a voice that she was certain was Kemp's, although the caller never stated their name.[1][4] The caller sounded panicked and read out a number, urging Aiello to call him back. She did so the next day: a man answered and Aiello asked if

there is a myth in my country that might have a link to this phenomenon. Search about jenglot. In short, the myth tells of a fate of those who seeks the secret of the universe, but not accompanied by enlightment. when they die, their corpse would burn and shrink. those who achieved enlightment though, would have their corpses totally vanish, leaving no trace at all. They achieve moksha (perfect death)
