My bro is going to study in NYC for 4 months, and the people who owns the aparment he will rent is some association called AMORC and they want the full 4 months rent paid in advance

Not fishy. AMORC may or may not own a fair bit of property split between the coasts. Just don't join, their lineage is questionable at best and their internal systems of instruction are weak compared to other Rosicrucian outfits.

That is a horrible analogy. If anything, the Catholic Church considers being a member of AMORC and other initiatory mystic groups to be a heresy.

AMORC is an alright organization (even though they are hippy-dippies), but have him call their main office to make sure that this is really AMORC renting out the property and not some group claiming to be such.
