>A bit worried about spending time close to the woods, scared kid and all that
>Mum tells me it will be fine, head over to friend's place
>Play a few board games and he tells me some local scary stories
>Tells me one of the guys who lives in the trailer park is an avid gun collector and psycho
>Don't believe him, but he swears it's true
>Says the kids knock on his door and run on Halloween
>Feel bad for the guy since he's probably some retired hunter the kids keep pissing off
>Call it a night, nothing super spooky happens

>talk to friend about it and he says he's been gone for a while on a hunting trip
>feeel glad the guy's at least doing what he likes again, hope he feels better when he comes back

Fastforward a few months
>At best friend's place shooting BB gun at target near edge of woods
>being loud and making a lot of noise when we get near the middle of the target
>sleep at his place
>wake up in the morning and the target is shredded
>looks like someone took a fucking 12 gauge to it
>get worried we're pissing off old guy

>Tell mum about old guy and the BB gun target
>She decides to go talk to him about it next time she drops me off at friend's place
>Drops me off, get worried about her as she walks towards his trailer
>watch from friends window, old guy opens door
>they talk for a few minutes, he's polishing a gun at a chair near the doorway
>get kinda spooked my mum's gonna get shot
>she walks out, comes into friend's trailer and talks to me and him
>tells me to stay away and he won't bother us
>says we better not agitate him because he seemed pretty trigger happy
>think she's just trying to scare us, but start doing dumb shit further in the woods or at my place instead just in case
>few months go by without incident

>we panic and grab him before old guy answers
>nope the fuck away, but still pretty sure he saw us
>stop going over to friend's house worried he'll recognize me and tell parents (or worse)
>friend spends a lot of nights over at my place saying he's been staring at him through the window when he's outside
>Overall gotten more spooked about pissing him off
>Decide I'd rather get in trouble than get shot one day
>tell mum what happened and ask her to help de-escalate the situation
>she leaves to go talk to him
>wait worried at house while watching movie
>she comes back, seems pretty disturbed
>says that he was making menacing threats about me and friend, and that his place reeked much more than last time she went
>really terrible. Worse than when people puked in her bar way back when
>she says she's suspicious and she'll report him in the morning to the sherrif's office

>Morning comes, mum asks me to come with her to sheriff's office
>Nervous but agree
>On way to trailer park to pick up friend so he can testify as well
>Get out of car and go inside friend's trailer
>old guy seems to still be asleep
>talk to friend and his mum for a bit about old guy

>she agrees to let him come with us and asks if she can come as well
>most of the trailer park is suspicious of old guy at this point
>pretty convinced his hunting trip went wrong in some way and sent him over the deep end
>Mum and friend's mum tell us to go play a game while they talk a bit
>probably talking about how we might be traumatized or some crap
>play a few board games before we get bored and turn on the tv

>One of those horrible sounds plays to show a county weather warning
>can't explain why but those things always horrified me
>instantly get chills and get really nervous and fearful
>county weather warning is about a severe storm incoming
>figure we should hurry out and get home before the storm hits
>freak out at what I think are gunshots and duck
>turns out to be heavy rain on the top of the trailer
>massive storm has hit, torrential downpour ensuing
>mum says we all need to go to our house where they'll be safer from the storm
>sheriff report can wait
>grab coats to block rain and run to the car
>turn back and see people getting out of trailers to drive to safer areas
>ground is flooded pretty bad
>see old guy hasn't left trailer
>somehow in my fearful and anxious state still think I need to help him
>dude may be a potential murderer and psycho but he doesn't deserve to die in a flood
>run up to door and knock
>old man answers, looks me up and down
>start to shudder from cold and fear
>"And who're ya?"
>Realize that in all my years of knowing old guy never introduced myself
>I point up to the sky
>"I come from a land down under."
>"Where beer does flow and men chunder"
>"Can't you hear can't you hear the thunder?"
>"You better run, you better take cover, yeah."

Was it really that good? I felt bad ending that any other way besides as a meme because it was all fake as shit, but I've been told I'm a decent writer so taking my chances at horror may be something I tackle next
