Material wishes, when fulfilled, will just come back to bite you in the ass. Were they all to be granted, you'd either lose your sense of purpose or desperately moving on to new, similarly empty, goals. Repeat forever, that sense of purposelessness slowly getting stronger.

Humans experience happiness, feel-good chemicals in your brain as a form a reward for moving closer to a goal; not when actually fulfilling it. Spiritual desires, on the other hand, have no such end goal - you can always strive to be a better person.

If material possessions pile up along the way of your spiritual journey, so be it - enjoy them. If they don't, you'll look past them because they are not the source of your well-being anyways.
