The mind is seemingly a dark force.

That is why we must worship God: all cells, atoms, particles in the universe are in worship of God. They strictly abide by His Laws. So must the mind.

A xenobiologist was once asked "How do you define sentience?"
He responded "That which can build radio transmitters."

At a cursory glance, it is a tongue-in-cheek joke about how limited we are in searching the cosmos for life. But in reality, it is a deep response about how important it is for the cognizant to recognize one another. If consciousness cannot be recognized, then it may as well not exist.

This is the risk we run as we search for intelligence in our universe; our scope and frame is so limited that we risk missing the minute and grandoise. If a consciousness being were to think too slow or too fast, and respond accordingly, we would be unable to recognize as anything cognizant.

In short, consciousness could exist and may even be closer than we'd suspect; but it is ultimately moot as humans can only "know" humans.
