I will guarantee that I have read so much more and at such a higher complexity than you that it would be embarrassing for you if we could compare.

The issue is the quality of the author. Creepypastas are not ever worth reading beyond about three paragraphs. Ever.

Dogscape is probably too New Weird to be remembered - there's a reason why most creepy pastas tend to be monsters and things that go bump in the night: that's what people read.

Personally I'm a huge fan of New Weird, and thanks for reminding me of Dogscape. Makes me think of "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream", and, strangely, of "Made of Meat".

Look into/try and find a book edited by the Vandemeers called "The New Weird" - it has a clockwork cockroach on the cover, and some brilliant stories inside.
>>
>>19286251
>>
>>19287265
what is new weird exactly?
>>
>>19288549

If I had to guess, it's probably a current year iteration of the Weird Fiction genre established by Lovecraft and his contemporaries in the first half of last century. I imagine it deals with themes of techno terror, body horror, biopunk and the social disconnect/anxiety of the information age vs. cosmicism and the existential questions underpinning hard scifi. Again, this is just a guess based on the context of this thread. Is there an anon familiar with the genre who can tell me how accurate my diagnosis is?

I know a lot of creepypastas are literally a kids first fiction, and that's cool, but some of them are legit decent short stories, even within the genre of creepypasta and its sub-genres. Pale Luna is a good "spooky game" pasta in a sea of derivatives, and that should be praised.

Because the thing shifts constantly, and has it in for you. One moment you could be walking on a patch of fur, the next, the damn thing opens up and you fall into a writhing pit of dog genitalia, and are subsequently violated in -ALL- of your holes. The Dogscape is horrifying Anon.

Just read dogscape for the first time, really good concept but not perfectly executed. It reminded me of that comic where the dude is captured by an alien mosquito and taken to an underground world.

A video game about this kind of horror would be amazing, even as a walking simulator. Just going around exploring a living landscape, avoiding and discovering dangers, facing abominations and other survivors

It's not really a creepypasta, it just got branded at one. It's less horror and more weird sci-fi. Still a good read but I can see why it doesn't appeal to creepypasta fans.
>>
>>19290212

It could totally work if the game play was entirely focused on survival. Running around, coming up with unconventional means of survival in a mutated, living landscape. Maybe a few crazy survivors you have to fight off here and there, but the main challenge would be harvesting food/drink/shelter from an environment that occasionally tries to eat you.

You start reading the story, assuming it's going to be stupid.
Then you see that it's surreal/bizarro and not badly written.
Then you see how well the author handles the surreal premise (self-replicating material based on dog
flesh engulfing the world like in the gray goo nanotechnology scenarios) when taken to its logical extreme.
It's played straight and reminds me of JG Ballard or William Burroughs.

Probably wouldn'the work anyway. The implication given in the story is that whatever's beneath the outer layers of dog, it's far, far worse than anything else. Exterminatus'ing the entire planet would just peel off the outer layers, and reveal the true horror to the world.
>>
>>19291443
"Exterminatus is the name of a terrible order in High Gothic given by the highest authorities of the Imperium of Man to destroy an entire planetary biosphere and all life upon a world."
>all life upon a world
also, virus bomb
>>
>>19290225
I think there are several different narrators throughout, but in attempt to keep the format of being a bunch of disorganized logs, there's really no direct indicator, which obfuscates it all, especially since the author isn't good at simulating different speech patterns, but it's not the spooky kind of obfuscation, just the lazy kind. I still really like it, but damn I'd appreciate if they took the time to add names, like anyone writing a diary entry knowing that they're about to die probably would, or at least indicated what logs were 'found' in what locations. Or just differentiated the speech between characters more, but it's some fucked off surreal sci-fi/vaguely horror story on the internet and that would be too much work.

Yeah, I know what it does, but that's the problem. The Dogscape isn'the- really- alive, at least not in a way that we would consider normal things to be alive. You blow off the ablative layers, and you start reaching the point where the 'dog' ends, and the beginning of something else, something truly terrible begins. The only way would be to blast the planet to pieces, and hope the damn thing can'take survive that.

hmm, seems to me like most people here are new or simply don't remember, but Dogscape was never one single conventional work by an author per se,
rather, it was a thread prompt, and the ridiculous premise became good writing excercise for those of us around here who liked to flex them creative writing muscles around like minded individuals
the posting on the creepy pasta wiki website is a collection of some of the highlights that came out of those threads, so in other words each "log" was an individual and independent contribution to the concept of the Dogscape, each of which may be by different authors

If it goes over 4chan posting limits it isn't creepypasta, it's just a short story. NES Godzilla really falls apart at the end anyway, so I'm sure there are better examples that you could have used instead.
>>
>>19299103
that was kind of my point in that it's way too fucking long. i guess sarcasm doesn't translate that well over text after all.
>>
>>19299115
Try slapping an /s at the end next time
>>
>>19299092
I was going to mention this.
Say what you want about the ending, but I love the creepy and imaginative shit that's in this.

One should be skilled enough at language to use sarcasm without having to rely on a tag.

All life upon the world includes the thing under the dog, and anything else under that. It would completely annihilate all life.

>>
>>19286251
I like it but only ironically. It's not really scary, just really fucking weird and kinda stupid but in a good way
>>
>see oh pees pic
>thinking there's no way this dogscape thing is exactly what it sounds like that would be retard tier
>is exactly what it sounds like
>fucking holy terrible pasta batman

the scariest pastas are the ines that are most credible or play like they could be reasonably possible, this pasta takes that and shits all over it

OP here. I leave for a few days and when I come back, I'm lucky enough to find that people care enough to make over 100 replies. That makes me happy.

I'm not someone who gets scared by fiction, but I enjoy horror stories anyway because they do a lot of crazy, silly stuff while still giving a shit about dramatic tension.

I don't know whether to laugh or not reading this post, and I fucking love feeling like this. You encapsulated what I love about Dogscape.

>>19290212
Exactly my thoughts. And when I first read it, I thought, "I can't wait for the game in three years." Somehow didn't happen.

>>19294000
Your repeating figures are well-deserved.

I've been told to go back to M'Leddit for years now, and every time I do, I'm reminded why I don't use that site. Yet people still keep telling me to go there. Maybe when they allow anonymous posts and get rid of the karma system.

the use of sarcasm in dialect is indicated by the tone at least half the time, so its no surprise that people cant sense what tone you are trying to speak in through text, they project whatever they expect you to be like onto what you're saying.

A+ read, thanks for posting.

I also enjoyed Dogscape, very strong imagery in that.

more specifically I believe it stands for "terveiset" or "terveisin" which are the words for Greetings/Regards/Wishes and the plural form respectively.

It's an odd website we frequent.

i read Dogscape expecting it to be at least mildly scary. Its just non sensical and cringy though. Especially the parts about sex with the dog ground. Its like a 14 year old tryhard wrote it. The fuckin NES Godzilla creepypasta was better and its long as hell and pretty boring too.
>>
>>19286251

If you're going to post about some obscure thing no one knows about, which you even fucking acknowledged, then include the link you lazy nigger. You're worse than the person who tells others to Google the source of HIS OWN fucking facts that he just spread.

Seriously go fucking kill your self you lazy piece of shit.

PS: your copypasta makes me want to spit on your mom's grave.

I started reading this Dogscape. Reminds me of Mastaba Snoopy, where an alien life form reads a Snoopy comic then grows until it covers the whole planet in its biomass and creates a dystopian alien perversion of the Peanuts comics.
