Sigils are not really my area of expertise, and I believe that many of the benefits are psychological in nature.
I have had success with using sigils for changing my personality, They're also useful for servitor creation and play surprisingly well with other forms of magic.

Don't expect to make a sigil and suddenly see massive effects with no other effort on your part, If you aren't working towards your goal in the physical world as well then you might as well just be jerking off.
