What makes me a vampire?

The two guys who turned me into one (reluctantly). I have posted my story on here before in detail, but the key points are that I insulted two vampires, Something happens (the turning I guess, it's blurry) and then the blackouts, blood dreams, seeing blood dripping from walls, necks, wrists and growing fangs that I didn't have previously.. as far as I can recall.

The dreams and constant cravings confirm for me that I am what I am, my eyes are sharp, my senses are sharper. If I don't drink, my throat burns like hot coal. There's more to me, so either research or find my full story.

Or maybe they do age but at a much slower rate. You're also looking for a race of creatures that rely on the mystical magic to be undead. But what is the rationality again of mystical powers? Vampires aren't immortal. They are, in fact, dead. They just don't stay in their graves at night.

Vampires can be slowed down by scattering seeds or having a lot of knots, or netting (just a series of knots really). They don't like the smell of garlic, and I think verbena is also a good ward against them, as are religious icons.

You don't really want to become a vampire. It's a hellish afterlife of hunger and torment, and feeding on your loved ones to sustain your own miserable existence. You're more a ghost than a person.

I wouldn't wish that on an enemy, or a friend. I certainly wouldn't wish for it for myself.
