I've noticed that people into the paranormal, cryptozoology, ufos, and other stuff oftentimes have two warring sides to their personality. One side yearns for the fantastical, while the other side refuses to waste effort on things that are absolutely provably NOT REAL. They just can't bring themselves to "waste time" reading fantasy, or science fiction, or playing games because they KNOW these things are NOT REAL.

While UFOs and other things are PROBABLY not real, they POSSIBLY could be. That slim chance that these things MIGHT be true is enough to satisfy their inner need to not waste time on frivolous and worthless endeavors.

Also even though the chances of any alt-conspiracy subject being real is small, IF REAL the consequences for society are massive so the odds of NOT wasting your time (over the long run) somewhat balance out.
