I've always thought of it as sigil magik. However somewhat effective one person practicing it may be. If you get a meme viral and people all over the world thinking about it the effect multiplies. Get enough people over a long enough period of time you could theoretically effect reality. By altering the perception of vox populi (then who's the wiser), and they'll act accordingly, or by literally altering reality. If magik has any real merit to it then I'd assume its possible.
