When people in the bible talk about "hell" and burning after you die, they are referencing a place on Earth outside of the city where corpses of people who were poor or just didn't matter were burned. It was a bad thing because they believed your body should be buried in a tomb and whatever, so your body burning in the fiery pit was something nobody wanted.
