From far away and long ago in the void between galaxy filaments.
A world a product of a quasar stream colliding with a rare cloud
ionizing it to start to stick electrically and to form radioisotopes,
collapses into a system without a sun of a single frozen dark gas giant with a few moons and a receding disk.
On one particular tidally locked moon, enough isotopes have
accumulated that it is volcanically active enough to keep continents and have them shift. The crust is thick considering how the surface only gets warmth from beneath. As hot spots move, magma clears immense tunnels connecting around the moon. Lava flows cool and are saturated with water and hydrogen sulphide gas. CO2 in the water carves through making channels and long cave systems branching from the immense tunnels. A water line forms and distinguishes a sea and an atmosphere underground. A warm hospitable zone not to close to the magma sea, not too far. Inbetween where warm water and gas rises.

They longed to have friends so badly that by the time they achieved the technology to touch the milkyway, they came across Theia and had a mars sized planet collide in such a way the angles, speeds, and masses were so unnaturally perfect, that a race like them may evolve on its own on the resulting planet with one difference, that we would have light to thrive and that we wouldn't take forever to come meet up with our neighbors. Why? Friendship.
