The easiest way would be just to not let yourself be known to them. The shut-in nature should make this easy enough; for the average person, they will actively deny your existence.

Otherwise, try to avoid people with knowledge. Smart psychopomps make it their business to know how to move you along, and will often employ other spirits to aid them. Likewise, free spirits can also be a threat to you, probably moreso than people.
