Hey /x/, I'm looking for Mexican monsters.
Or at the very least, Latin American monsters/ghosts/urban legends that are popular in Mexico?
Any Latin/x/ people here who can help me out?
And please, let's go beyond El Chupacabra and La Llorona. They're good but I'm hoping to find some more obscure creatures and beings.
Here in Argentina we have "la solapa" there's is a folk song on YouTube
Well, I'm pretty sure you might already know these but meh
Mexican ones:
-La llorona
-La planchada
-El charro negro
-El chupacabras
-El Nahual
-El chaneque
-El Aluxe
Other countries
- El Ukumar Zupai (from Argentina)
-El Imbunche (argentina)
-El Tucumán (argetina)
-El Anchimalén (Perú?)
-El Pompero/pombero (Paraguay and Brazil)
¿Where are you from?

Here in mexico el chupacabras is widely spread as a hoax. The legend is puerto rican, actually. If you want mexican folklore you'd be better reading the popol-vuh

I don't think he will find what he is looking for in there. ¿Have you ever read the popol vuh?

Oh?
You mind sharing the link?

Interesting list, I'll totally have to check it out.

United States, but I'm super interested in learning more about Latin horror.

No. I just think he's better off reading that kind of thing instead of looking for "urban legends" no one believes in
La Lechuza.
Supposedly there are these women who are like, ... were-owls.
hahaha nobody believes in mayan myths neither. But yes, it is indeed far more interesting and complex.

i think you are talking about witches. In rural areas of my country, people think that those women can transform either in lechuzas or guajolotes (but like, huge) and hut down children to drink their blood and give their husbands the cooked meat saying is chiken. (my grandpa used to tell a lot of stories about them)

ya forgetting
-la mano peluda,
-la leyenda del callejón del beso
-el puerto de san blas
-los sombrerudos
Don't forget about muh boy here.
To be clear, I don't necessarily need stories people actually believe. Even if its clearly not something most people believe, if it's actually a legend or a myth from Latin America, I'd like to hear about it.
What about "El Sancho"?
It's a mythical creature that comes to your house when you go to work and bangs your wife.
