To a Gnostic, this material world is evil - a prison for your soul. Your soul is the only "good" part of you. That piece of you came from "God" who lives in a more pure, less fucked up realm that exists outside of this one. The demiurge is akin to the devil and this is hell. He is the "creator god" and his archons serve beneath him.

Good news though, gnostics have the answer to set your soul free and be rid of this hell - it's wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.

Had a dream about that symbol of it before I ever knew what it was.

The Matrix movies are essentially Gnosticism turned into sci-fi. So is a lot of Philip K Dick's stuff, Ubik and Valis probably being the most relevant. Seen as a somewhat malevolent creator figure, it is said to keep people imprisoned in a false reality.

Gnosticism has many parallels with NWO conspiracy theories, and having watched a fair amount of Alex Jones I think his views especially seem to reflect this. It's notable that a prominent Russian political thinker Alexsandr Dugin seems to believe in Gnosticism on some level as well and his views have a lot in common with both Russian foreign policy as well as commonly held views in the alt-right.

To me it seems philosophically similar to Buddhism in the sense that emotions and attachment to physical phenomena are the mechanism of control. Most Gnostics see Jesus as a figure that reaches a transcendent God greater than the Demiurge.

A lot of New Age stuff borrows from it too. The ideas around Reptillians, archons, New World Order, loosh-farming.

I think it's a very interesting world view and one I feel particular connection to, but at the same time I feel like it is used as a kind of crypto-fascism, in the sense that one of the better writers on the subject Julius Evola was a fascist and aforementioned Dugin as well as prominent alt-right figures are directly influenced by his works.

You know anon, speaking about gnosticism is not very pleasant because (I deduce) not everybody has read on the same gnostic belief, so you get inconsistencies from such and such person, for instance, I do not get where people entertain the notion of the Higher, unknown God (the father) being far too removed and isolated, as He is omnipotent and still can interact according to the texts I have read, where He does answer pleas for help and even sends angels.

As for the demiurge, just an evil created, powerful, but not a god by all means.
