While it is true that some experience hallucinations when they smoke most don't. I'd say its about 1 in 100 to 200 people and it has more to do with how their brain reacts to the chemical than the chemical itself. Source: Tons of firsthand experience aswell as knowing people who "trip" and people who don't.

I'm high out of my mind right now, and this thread made me remember one of my first times smoking weed.

I had smoked an entire blunt by myself (I bought two, my two friends shared the other one). They got high, I was tripping balls. I wanted to curl up in a ball and die at first. Then I laid down and couldn't stop shivering.

The worst part is that I believed one of my friends to be a demon, and the other the devil himself. I told him so, and attempted to fight him, very poorly. They just talked me into lying back down, and covered me with blankets. I kept mumbling about him being demonic. My mind felt entirely gone. As close to madness as I have ever felt. I am convinced now, after ingesting much THC, that I had gotten something laced. I felt the effects the entire next day.

Buddy of my from college was schizophrenic. Musical genius - but a bit off the rails. He'd have psychotic breaks every now and again when we blazed. Visual and auditory hallucinations like crazy...

Marijuana gives me panic and anxiety issues if I smoke it. It literally makes everything scary so I have to sit down and watch Spongebob or Scooby Doo or something. Set and setting is required for me to get high.

I recall the 50 first times I smoked (about a 8 month period at 17), I tripped about a 7 to a 4 on a 10 scale; 1 being buzzed and 10 breaking through. For those who don't smoke often a heavy dab hit or hash can rock them to a very heavy trip, with little physical danger to boot.
