I agree with you, at some points these leaks changed democracy, exposed corruption in remote countries (like mine) and where by lack of a better world, epic.

Now they seem even petty, extremely politically motivated and mostly rely on invasion of privacy, this starts to look like the CIA style.

I think of it differently. I'd go as far to say that these are leaked by the CIA itself. For two reason.
1. To see if the people have it in them. Will they protest these intrusions or will they learn about it go on their ways?
2. To depict the last guy as the bad guy. In turn making/depicting the new guy as a transparent fellow etc.
