Learned people worshipped them mostly because they appreciated the beauty of their mythologies and had a better understanding of the powers of the mind than most people do nowadays. They didn't need these gods to explain the universe or themselves at all - many were into Hermeticism in private - but still built shrines for all these gods and worshipped them. Why? They wanted to give body, heart and soul to those stories, if only to add to the beauty of the world.

Angels are Angles of Purpose.
Unique reflections of the Creator and existence, whether Fallen away and corrupted without the Light or risen and embracing it and their purpose.

The pagan gods and goddesses of old fit the same exact mold while carrying anothet name. Powerful spirits embodying different concepts or weaker ones simply serving certain purposes have been a staple in all spiritual religions throughout human history.

The problem comes when you worship an angle of god that will leave you short and deficient rather than glorifying the absolute truth that is the Creator and Source.

Jesus was a pure reflection rather than an oft-corrupted angle, and so following that example which is the purity of God the Creator rather than the pagan daemons leads to greater growth and success and healing.

You can still work with some entities gainfully just as holy men throughout the ages have called on and seen the angels and heeded them, but by any pagan religion these beings would be individuals among any number of gods, powerful but not allknowing.

Pagan comes from the Latin word pagus, small plots of land. Pagan first referred to farmers or country bumpkins, and was a sort of derogatory term. As Christianity grew in the cities, Roman religion lingered in the rural places, and those people who still worshipped the old gods were known as pagans.

In the middle ages, pagan came to mean heretic, one who is not christian, rather than one who believes in the Roman-Hellenistic pantheon.

New age fucks today ruined the word, associating it with wicca and satanism (made-up occult larping), partly the fault of middle age Christians. However, today it carries another connotation, one who still practices one of the several the indigenous European polytheistic religions.
