is it a bad omen that I've been waking up at witching hour for a week straight regardless of when I go to bed?
>>
Yes, it is a bad omen. It means your circadian rhythm is fucked up. This can lead to tons of problems. Including hallucinating spooky ghosts if you get sleep deprivation.
>>
the odd thing is when I wake up I feel completely rested even if I only slept for 4 hours

This depends on how much energy you spend during the day.
>>

I hadn't considered that I don't go out much so that could be it

This IS NOT A BAD OMEN. It's actually our most NATURAL sleep cycle. Our ancestors always woke up in the middle of the night and it was considered a restful, relaxing period. Then, they would go back to sleep after milling about and reading or whatnot. Consider yourself lucky because this is what we should all be experiencing. It's called biphasic sleep and it is actually much healthier and better for the body than our current 8 hour straight paradigm.

Our ancestors used to shit in the streets you know.

Only the ones that stayed in India.

Yeah, this is the other side of the stick about "our ancestors did it". Although to be honest, I think any sane-thinking person has to admit that rationally, progress doesn't extend so far as to say everything we do is better than our ancestors did it, so while you can mention that our ancestors ate babies, they also had some good stuff that we threw out due to abnormal conditions of modern life.

I guess so. We still have to adapt to the new conditions. And I think most people wake up in the middle of the night but they just don't remember it.

It was disgusting in Europe also.
