>In order to do magic you must believe in magic to begin with

When will this meme die?
>>
>>18741719
It's not a meme.

Try to do magic without believing in it, and tell me how it goes.
>>
>>18741719
id rather believe this statement
>In order to believe in magic, you must do magic to begin with
>>
>>18741725
tell religious people who don't believe in science to turn on the television. Tell me how it goes.
>>
magic is like placebo but out of body. so you do need to believe
>>
Real or not, magic is mostly about willing something into existence. If you don't have the will and you're not anticipating it, then don't expect much. And, obviously, by magic we're not talking about shooting fireballs and shit.
>>
>>18741731
Yes, because that's how science works.

It's not how magic works, you are asking something ethereal to behave as something material.
>>
>>18741725
>Try to do science without believing in it, and tell me how it goes.

Well it worked, consistently. So tell me how not believing in something to be true without proof is bad?
>>
>>18741725
As opposed to what..

Believing with no results?
>>
>>18741740
But we do have ethereal material in this world....

I don't fully understand what you are trying to say. Are you trying to create a new definition for a already existing term to try to support your nonsense?
>>
>>18741740
>its not how magic works
>implying magic works
>>
>>18741740
>its not how magic works

This statement right here states there is consistency in magic. So go ahead and document for me the most consistent result you get from some practice.
I already don't believe it so no point for me to try it. But you apparently can with the statements you are making. So prove me wrong.
>>
The 'magic' only works because you convince yourself it does, and your thoughts/expectations make reality. It's like why rituals work: the ritual makes you confident that your efforts will produce a result, and therefore it does.

Also ironically enough lucid dreaming is a great practice to this, as your expectations/emotions quite easily manifest into reality.

There's a psychic muscle adaptation in the brain, anons. It just needs to be worked like any other muscle.
>>
Magic is never foolproof. It is inconsistent. All you can do is raise the probability of it working. Believing in whst you do, automatically raises the probability. But it is not totally necessary. Depending on what you're doing of course.
>>
dumb people
if magic really work don't you think we shouldn't even have science? we have maths that helps us understand a lot of the world in which we live
don't believe me? then why every science law uses a mathematical formula then?
>>
>>18741802
Science is consistent and follows strict and constant methods. Magic doesn't.

That is the difference between the two. One creates order from chaos (Science) the other is an attempt to ride the wave of Chaos and hope to fuck you wash up on the beach.
>>
>>18741799
You are making it sound like magic is a quick summary to all of those self help books. Which makes sense lol.

Actually I had quite the opposite result from that lucid dreaming statement. Before I learned martial arts, I would run from danger in all of my dream. After learning martial arts, i actually fight in my dreams which I guess raises my confidence in reality as well.
>>
>>18741819
I just want to state that even if you create order from chaos, chaos cannot be rid of and will be spontaneously increasing forever until heat death.
>>
>>18741819
So basically, you are just waiting for an actual result to happen at some point so you can call it real?

I might as well tell myself ill grow wings and call it magic then.
>>
>>18741819

> One creates order from chaos (Science)

Science isn't creation, it's understanding. It can lead to creation, but science in of itself is just a method of understanding and a way of thinking.
>>
>>18741837
Ok.

>>18741845
Sure. Go for it. But in any sense, knowing probabilities and raising them in your favor is always useful. You can also do things that you would know for a fact, were not simple coincidence. Or maybe they are...

But hey, you'd be stupid not to try and better your odds in any game. If you find yourself with time to kill while waiting on XYZ to happen, why not magic?

You may say "i could do something more useful." But we both know you mostly just fap and browse 4chan. So that's not going to happen.
>>
>>18741863
Yeah. That was my point. Order from chaos can be in ordering your knowledge and thoughts.

Gods...it's like i'm on Reddit.

Magic only "works" because you believe in it because people will hypnotize themselves or make themselves more suggestible to it.

Selective perception (only paying attention to the readings that apply to yourself), confirmation bias (looking for clues that make sense, ignoring the rest) and coincidence... the result is you believe it's legit.

Example of this:
You see white vans almost every day but you don't pay attention or notice them. Then, you do a ritual where you ask a sign from the gods in forms of white vans. And BOOM! Suddenly you notice every fucking white van. It-must-be-magic!

I have talked to countless people who "practice" magic and none of them could ever do anything that can't be explained by any of the above. If you ever joined occult/magical Discord-channels the cringe is fucking real.

People are saying they are in relationships with 10 spirit wives, they energetically scan eachother, they do rituals but still remain ugly and broke. It's... tragic.
>>
Or take this guy for example >>18741870 who I got several readings from and none of them made sense or was accurate whatsoever.
>>
>>18741890
Oh. It's you. The one guy who has actually complained.
>>
>>18741902
You realize that people not always point when readings are wrong or inaccurate? They either say nothing or give you a pity-reply.

I had several inaccurate readings from you and only pointed it out the last time because I had some hopes the former were just mistakes.
>>
>>18741864
>i could do something more useful
>states that browsing 4chan is better than fapping and watching porn

Yeah sure, instant gratification does sure suck compared to magic and 4chan....
>>
>>18741907
I have tons of people tell me when I'm wrong dude. Hundreds over the years. If not thousands. None of them bitch about it though. They tell me I was wrong, I say sorry, they find another reader or get on with life.

Certain people, I just can't do readings for very well. Generally they are sort of like you. People who get a bad reading, then keep asking me (and changing their names each time) and get more and more judgemental when they don't get what they want.

>"Orion may I have my instant gratification now please?"
>"Sorry dude. I don't have it."
>"FAKE AND GAAAAY"

Not my first rodeo bud.
>>
>>18741902
>blowing smoke up ones ass

This is a perfect example of this statement. This is why so many restaurants go out of business thinking everyone was satisfied.

No.. It sounds like you fucked up and are trying to recover.
>>
>>18741934
How did you get that from that? I said fapping and browsing 4chan were the same importance.
>>
>>18741940
How so? Becau
>>
>>18741937
So pointing out that it was inaccurate is complaining now? I didn't want gratification, I don't ask for love-crap. I asked you to describe my aura and you described me as a totally different person.

Simple as that.
>>
>>18741937
OH i get it now! You are using magic to give readings huh? Eventually at some point, you got to be somewhat close to being right. And you can increase your probability of it happening by consistently doing readings everyday.

I understand what magic is now. Its basically faith or religion.
>>
>>18741800
Listen to this person. They know what they are talking about. Also consider the huge strides that have been made in quantum theory, and how that could be related. Perhaps "magic" is just a science that is undiscovered as of yet. I would argue that it is. All modern science was, at one time or another, considered magic or paranormal.
>>
>>18741941
You are telling me to do magic because Im not going to be doing something else. Which is untrue because i would rather fap than to do magic. Do you try to be right all the time or something? wtf
>>
>>18741952
How do you even know magic is real then if it's literally "It can work, but maybe not, there's 1000 factors can prevent it"? What makes it different from coincidence?
>>
>>18741742
How many scientists are there that don't believe in science?
>>
>>18741952
Except science is not magic or paranormal and science is consistent with supporting evidence.

People are describing magic as increasing probabilities by repeated trials and faith that in at least one trial, there will be success. This is not science.
>>
>>18741943

Uh huh. And I had other people say I was correct. I know you want to assume " I dislike you, therefore everyone else must dislike you". But why on 4chan would anyone not assram me for being wrong? They generally do. I also never claim to be right. Just told you what I saw.

>>18741948
Dunno man. If that's how you see it, sure.

>>18741955
It was sort of me being sarcastic. But you get the point, right? The answer to "why do it" is "it might help." Which is why abyone tries it. It may offer a way of helping you.

>>18741970
Nah. My phone copy/pasted something from somewhere else.
>>
What the fuck is the point of calling something magic when all you guys are talking about is just probabilities and statistics? Of course something is going to happen if you keep on trying and keep success in the back of your mind.
>>
>>18741952
chemistry is the closest thing to magic
with the main difference that it actually works
and can study the universe with it
try it out
>>
>>18741993
I don't dislike you because I don't know. I am just saying that you are living proof that divination doesn't work because all your readings were inaccurate.

And most of your readings you do for other people are general as fuck and most people can find themselves in it.
>>
>>18741993
>why do it if it might help?

Because I already know that consistent trials will increase likelihood of success. This is based off math, not magic. You magicians are basically riding the wave mathematicians have created and calling it your own. Such disgraceful act of plagiarism. Bunch of degenerates. I'm glad society does not accept your kind to be contributing members.
>>
>>18741993
>dunno man

How can you say you don't know when you described it exactly the way I interpreted it?
>>
>>18742001
I'm probably one of the least vague. Or at least I try to be. It still just seems like you have an odd bone to pick with me, or divination in general. Which is fine. I get it.

And I have no idea where you're getting this "all your readings" stuff from. Unless you have people secretly telling you "yeah he was wrong" after telling me I was right or did a good job. And if THAT is the case...why?
>>
>>18741991

>The salt is real.

But I'm not offering a service for payment. I'm doing a service for fun with the understanding that "results may vary".

We're back to...

>well I can't give it to you bro
>FUCK YOU
>>
It depends on semantics. I would consider all of these amazing technologies we have today to be "magic". Smart phones are like everyone's personal wands that do a bunch of crazy shit. Meditation is like magic as well. You can transport your mind and do incredible things just through the power of concentration. Check out that dude Wim Hof. He ran a marathon in -4°F wearing nothing but gym shorts. That's some magic.
>>
>>18741965
You clearly don't know how quantum theory was developed, or perhaps any science. When you start with something completely unknown, there's a LOT of trial and error. Especially when you don't even have instruments to measure ANY aspect of it, or any way to even define a control group. Nobody's trying to force you guys to believe, I don't think
>>
>>18742021
Its called Forer/Barnum Effect. People will always apply generalizations to themselves. I just looked up some of your readings and you don't say oddly specific things. Almost everything is pretty general or just a reply (50%-50%) to the querents question about a situation.

First off, the trial and error comes from other variables that may not have been considered. You first must ask a question in order to start any kind of research. You just don't go wild wild west on something and hope to succeed. Also, research isn't about getting success. Its about what are the results.
Honestly, i have no idea where you are going with all this talk about development of science.

>>
>>18742169
Dude. You're looking at things one dimensionally.

Probability is a universal constant ( for sake of simplicity) you can effect it through various means. It existed before math existed. Nobody "owns" it. Everyone, everyday uses it or sways in the wind with it.

Why the ever-loving-fuck are you trying to make it into intellectual property and into a concept that has a limited sphere of influence, despite the fact that it is just a law of nature. Math helps understand it and put a name with a face. That's it. Your probabilities would exist with or without math.

Og the caveman knew zero about math, but had a 80% chance of getting his insides brought to his outsides by a Sabertooth one day.

I think I may not understand. Because if you're saying what I think you're saying, you're just being arrogant for some odd reason.
>>
the issue with a lack of belief in magic is that it has nothing to do with the action. it's the power of the mind over-riding reality.
the actions in magic are all psychodrama and have no bearing on the act itself.
without belief, it's just a bunch of tools and candles.

You don't use any math at all to do numerous acts most would deem "magic".

What to you, is magic? Like...when you think of it, what comes to mind?
>>
>>18742251
So. When I didn't mean to offend you, and you took offense, you want me to just let you be pissed? Ok.

You can stay stuck on a turn of phrase if you want. THAT is stupid. Or you can just stop delving into semantics just for the sake of slinging as much shit as possible.
>>
>>18742257
>Magic is affecting probabilities
Thats still math.... I can increase trials or decrease them to affect probabilities.

Like I said, you can call a chicken a seal all you want, but we all know its a chicken.

Im not sure if you noticed by now, but stating just general facts is not good for trying to elaborate on an idea that requires more proof work to make it distinct.

I didn't set out to magic this debate. Or win. I know for a fact one of you in the debate runs into me a lot. I was honestly just trying to come to some form of understanding. The rest of you guys sort of trickled in and got a little...I have no idea.
>>
>>18741719
Its only magical if you din't know how its done... silly billies.
But yeh lots of knowledgable sorcery now days... >in a world of free tek.
>>
>>18742367
Except me. Which I would have attempted to explain since not all practices considered magical use straight up probabilities. Which I should have clarified. But you know, the shitstorm blew in.

And I am a brick wall. Stubborn as fuck. Or do you want to call me stupid? Because that won't hurt my feelings at all and cause me to debate you over it for an hour.
>>
>>18742375
>You ever talk to a brick wall? Would you want to? I'm trying NOT to talk to a brick wall over a topic that is more complex than he will ever want to allow himself to see.

Lets break it down since the topic at heart is no longer being discussed due to several disagreements towards you.

>You ever talk to a brick wall? Would you want to?
You are asking me if i have talked to someone dumber than me and asking how would I like it if someone dumb kept bothering you to elaborate.

>I'm trying NOT to talk to a brick wall over a topic that is more complex than he will ever want to allow himself to see.
You are stating because of how dumb I am that I will not even want to be bothered in learning something so complex because when has there ever been a time someone stupid is willing to learn something that is far out of the scope of ones knowledge.

>im just saying you are stubborn
The meaning of the phrase itself means you are tlaking to an idiot. Earlier you told me i was an idiot for not understand what the general consensus of the meaning was despite not actually knowing the meaning. Then at the end you give a very weak apology stating i was technically correct trying to hold onto whatever you can to try to be right in a sense.

You are right to call yourself an asshole. Good luck with everything and good bye

The fact that this truth is being paraded as false is majorly sad. I wish I wasn't busying living right now but I will share everything I BELIEVE to be true in the very near future. Make what you will of it, maybe it's a joke, but it's not to be taken lightly
>>
>>18741719
when it stops being true
>>
>>18742384
>I am better than everyone here
>I don't know why people react when they are insulted

You might be a sociopath as well dude. Keep talking, its interesting to see your true nature come out.
>>
>>18742400
No. I'm pretty sure I just called you stubborn.

/lgbt/ has a safe space for you if you need it bruh.

>>18742412
Ok Freud.

Whatcha want to talk about? Mind indulging me finally and telling me how you see magic? What it is? (Even if you think it's all fake, what do you think it is according to others.)
>>
>>18742433
>even if you think its fake

Wow man, just wow. How are you not aware what everyone here interpreted magic as at this point?
>>
>>18742439
Speak for yourself, friend. Also, consider thinking for yourself
>>
>>18742433
>refuses to state talking to a brick was does not mean being stubborn

lol, its okay. There are many religious people like you who don't want to be wrong ever.
See, i told you why i couldn't make distinctions between magic and math. But you keep telling me im stubborn while trying to put new meanings to already existing phrases since you can do that with magic and math.
I fully understand your state of mind.
>>
>>18742448
I was talking about the people he was and currently is talking to....
>>
>>18742439
Because I've been talking to you and time and space slowed down to a mind numbing crawl.

>>18742450
Hit reset. Tell me again.
>>
>>18742455
How could you possibly know who is who on an anonymous message board?
>>
>>18742461
>time and space slowed down to a mind numbing crawl
What? I don't understand what this means.
>>
>>18742469
by seeing whose been replying to orion and looking at their agreements and disagreements. You can easily see what people's thoughts are
>>
>>18742461
You can call a chicken a seal all you want, but everyone knows its a chicken.
This phrase seems to stop you dead in your tracks. Concede good sir
>>
>>18742485
Concede? No.

Start assuming you are bored or realized how idiotic this has all been on both sides, sure. I had fun though. Cya Freud and SafeSpace.
>>
>>18742515
its pretty cute how hot and bothered you are while calling someone safespace.
It was fun making you look like a giant retard, cya Orion.

>Stubbornness =/= stupidity
I agree with you, dude.

You have been correct.

>>18742181
>Equates stubbornness with intelligence.
Derp.

I would call you a little narrow minded, myself.
>>
>>18742586
>Me? BOTHERED?!?!
>NO YOU!!!

The hole. You are digging it. Stop that.
>>
>>18742616
Thank you.
>>
>>18742623
yes, stubborn=/=stupidity.
But orion likes to think "talking to a brick wall=stubborn"

Which is ironically very stubborn of him to think

>>18742623
lol, anything to make you less bothered is fine with me.
>>
>>18742673
Dude I have nothing invested in this, but when one says "it's like talking to a brick wall" (in my country, anyway) they are generally referring to having a discussion with or explaining something to a very stubborn person.
>>
>>18742673
I would have to agree with the sentiment that the saying "talking to a brick wall" would generally imply stubbornness.

If you get any more detailed you've convoluted the saying.

I want to slam GFOTY's fat arse.

Not believing in something is a belief.
>>
>>18742727
Depending on one's philosophy, you are correct. Or, it is a lack of belief. What's more, it's really both!
>>
>>18742673
Your dad didn't hug you much, did he? Or something. Because you have some issues.
>>
>>18742748
It is what it is not...but it isn't.

Whoa...

In all seriousness, trying to delve into the philosophy of what "disbelief" is, or can be gets surprisingly deep. It can be your belief. Or not.
>>
>>18741731
Magic is not science.
>>
>>18742765
Right! They don't think it be like it is, but it do.
