I get that, and I know video at the ready wasn't as common as it is today, I just figured with the amount of people and tourists in the city, more than three pieces of footage would have been acquired. But I suppose three is a normal amount considering the time period

I'm totally stumped as well. Lifelong NYC resident. Every morning all the morning news channels have their choppers flying around doing lower Manhattan and Brooklyn morning traffic reports. NYPD have helis as well. The Empire State Building and Top Of The Rock have observatories and cameras that pan out over lower Manhattan. And yet there's only a couple of known tapes of the plane hitting. Makes zero sense. My guess is that the best footage was confiscated, kinda like how we only have one choppy three frame video of the Pentagon being hit despite there being a ton of security cameras.

Cellphone cameras were a lot less ubiquitous in 2001 also

besides the previously mentioned lesser ubiquity of quality video cameras in 2001 you also have to consider the very short amount of time that constituted the actual attacks. The act of the plane flying into the building was just seconds or less if you were in close proximity to the towers. So that decreases the chances that the actual strikes are filmed from more angles even more so.
