awesome things create a feeling, that is how you know you've encountered something awesome. the question is, what to do with that feel? when the feel happens because you see a hot girl in cute shorts, what to do with it? even fucking the girl might not bring the sense of completion that the feeling seems to suggest is available. that sense of being inspired to feeling by something in the world yearns for you to know it's potential, but how to do so?
there is a thing to do with it… you explore the feeling, you notice what it is that lets you know the feeling is there, and gently examine its features, explore what constitutes it. when you ordinarily feel something you just glance it, it is like an enormous palace with many gardens and galleries, but you just catch sight of it on the horizon. a feeling can be explored in the same way the palace can be explored, really there is no end to the exploration. and that which is being explored is made of that which inspired the feeling. satisfaction comes through this. ordinary interaction with feeling is like catching the aroma of a delicious meal, we usually settle for this level of affairs. practicing exploring feeling is like learning to eat the meal til you are full.
notice what it is that lets you know a feeling has happened, and ask yourself ‘what is this? where are its edges? what happens if I notice it, then notice some other thing, then go back to it? what are the mechanics in play here?’
