I took me like 3 weeks to actually get close and then like half a year to finally project. Once you get close, you're overcome by sensation of deadly crisis which feels very fucking real and causes you to snap out of it instinctively. I literally had to suppress my will to live in order project. Don't know if it's the same for most people, but you probably need to have a serious deathwish to project in less than a week.
