That shrieking sound you heard in the woods after dark is the mating call of a fox.

It creeped me out too once when I decided to take a walk in the woods after dark. There had been alot of snowfall so visibility was pretty good with all the snow reflecting the moonlight. I started noticing those shrieks far away, but I started getting nervous when I noticed the source was moving and circling me. Imagination started going wild and was picturing some kind of feminine silent hill monstrosity attacking me from behind. the fact that the path I followed goes right past a graveyard didnt help either. Finished the rest of my walk with a hand in my pocket holding my knife and looking over my shoulder often. I dont normally carry one but going into the woods alone at night I figured its better to be safe than sorry.
