I think it depends on your interpretation of the film and your definition of /x/ horror. But I get what you're saying; maybe it's just me, but the twist gave me an /x/ feel.

I love Ichi the Killer, I think it's a really great comment on violence. I recommend you Dario Argento's Suspiria and Inferno, he made a lot of other movies with the /x/ feel. Also Altered States, it's sometimes cheesy with the philosophical stuff but it's trippy as hell.
