Do you remember browsing the web when you were younger and seeing websites or videos that legitimately creeped you out? Mine was always the awareness test.
>>

I was 13 when the internet first started to become a thing.
It was rare to find computers in the home.
Dial up was THE only way to get in.
BBS was still going strong.
I feel like there was still more to be seen in those days.
Can we get a classic early internet spooks thread?
Extra points for USENET creeps.
>>
The creepiest thing I found online when I was younger was a website called Fucked-Up Science. It had a section about cryptids, another about bizarre medical conditions/procedures, and some other stuff. At the bottom of every page was a little message that said

>HELLO VISITOR FROM: YOURCITYHERE
Young me shat bricks because I didn't know about IP addresses at the time

Im still so happy that Rotten is alive and kicking.
I used to sneak and read it at night when I thought my parents werent awake.
And they still have most of their old content that I looked at as a kid 20 something years ago.
>>
>>18391803
That shit used to give me nightmares.
>>
I remember early 2000s illusions used to scare me since most of the time they were hidden screamers
>>
>>18391631
The only videos that were creepy in this way were doomsday conspiracy vids and screamers

Still here.
I LOVED this shit.
And there were tons more weird little sites like this.
Who here remembers this:

Only scary if you value your sanity, but still an oldie-but-goodie.

I wonder how he is now. Im sure he still keeps the facade of him being young. Although im sure he can now be accepted due to society today

I always had a fear it was a screamer or something. It probably did not help that another awareness test had the exorcist screamer
>>
I remember rotten and motherless sites spooking me. Also when screamers became popular.
What freaked me out most tho was trying to download music or episodes of a showhile on Kazaa and ending up with obscure home made videos that were sometimes original porn but sometimes just really weird.
>>
>>18391631

I remember when I was young my mom used to read this old shitty website called GhostQuest or some shit like that, but being probably like 4 or 5 scared the piss out of me lmao

Back before the internet we used to scare people by sneaking up behind, dropping a metal bucket on their head then beating the holy bjezus out of it with a metal rod. We called ringing your bell. The internet ruins everything.
>>
Old ass HTML sites with no styling are creepy af to me for some reason, these old black background with just text and images sites give off this feeling that what you're viewing has been abandoned for years. Here's shaye's site as an example, crazy to think the site's still up after the dude's death http://www.shayesaintjohn.net/
>>
when i was little i found a website called hamsterdance.com and when i went there i was afraid for my life the hamsters filled up your vision and were dancing demonically and in the background you could hear DOO DOO DOOO DOOO i cried and cried and cried
>>
Downloading stuff from Limewire used to be pretty scary.

For me, it was Losman Lair of Horror. It featured reviews of horror films, including mainstream, indie, foreign, and just plain obscure and disturbing.

I was probably in middle school or early high school when I discovered the site and it really blew my mind. Probably planted the seed of why I'm even on this site today.

recently I watched the louis theroux's weird weekends episode when they investigate the ufo crowd and they mention they were trying to contact heaven's gate, and got told that they weren't available for an interview as they were preparing for an extremely important thing (aka their mass suicide).

it feels kind of weird to go back in time watching an old show and see how history was unfolding itself. theroux and crew didn't know wtf was going on at the time.

anyway, the site is maintained by the few cultists who "stayed behind". they still fully believe in it, but they stayed behind to complete the work or some bs like that
>>
4chan probably... I was 13 and fairly innocent when I first browsed it and I was horrified. This must've been 2005? Two years later I was a fully fledged btard, it's kinda funny to look back and realized what I was scared at. But then again, back then 4chan wasn't an FBI honeypot nor was shilling land so there was quite a few illegal things going on under the surface
>>
I know in middle school we used to go into the computer lab and browse a few websites I think asgames? I know they had a few links that lead to screamers and stuff. The most infamoud being the moving chair one we even scared our teacher with that.
>>
>>18393882
That screamer use to scare the shit out of me

used to come across cp (my mind then didnt realize what it was then i just knew it shouldnt exist) every so often was probably a virus or w/e thinking back, would be off to check my news then bam redirect to that horrifying shit surpisingly never got anything bad through limewire or kazzaa

Obey the Walrus (Obedece a la morsa) and Shaye Saint John were probably the things that unsettled me the most, weird porn and gore coming second but I came desensitized to those pretty quickly.
>>

fuckman, do they still post? I had a friend that frequented and showed it to people all the time.

>>

I remember I saw an episode of avgn and there was this shit game that I dont remember the name of. I looked it up for whatever reason and looked at the images portion. That's right, I think there was supposedly nudity in the game and being young,I usually would try to search images from films and games that I knew had nudity , so I could look them up with out blatantly looking for porn because my mom would use the same comp and check the search bar and I was crafty little fuck. anyway, I saw a naked woman being choked and I was like wtf, so I clicked it and it wasn't from the game, it was some amature shit and it looked like they dudes were killing her aso I copied the link and sent it to and anonymous tip thing that this cop at school told us about lol, looking back and now knowing what I know from 4chan , it was probably fake but fuck, it scared the daylights out of me.

I love those. They were even kind of eerie back then. Remember the comfy as fuck late 90's/early 2000's conspiracy websites with tacky design and clip art but awesome articles? Man I miss those.

I used to specifically look naughty pictures of girls my age, back when I was like 13. I found a couple websites that had essentially what I was looking for. Kinda fucked up that I was able to find that stuff so easily.
>>
>>18391803
I used to go on rotten using the computer in my HS science class & use the pic of the asian girl in the tub shitting out a fountain of diarhea as the comp background much to the teachers dismay. Good times

When I was a young teen (read around 13) it was 1996 and I could find porn of girls my own age everywhere not realizing how fucked up that was
>>
In 2005 I could enter a random word, letter, or number and get random results (including a bunch of porn). Now it seems like every image result is personally approved and officiated no matter what you search for. Defeats the purpose of a search engine really but it's not like they care.

This one weird online 'art installation' that existed in the 1.0 days. It was called TRANSFORM.

Through the different areas you could visit it told the story of earth far into the future where an encroaching ice age was driving humans extinct. Somehow scientists discovered the existence an entity known as the Transformation Animal. A kind of lovecraftian looking creature as I recall. Possibly alien in origin or something. The gist is, the Transformation Animal accelerates evolution in whatever creature it chooses to help. The Transformation Animal kind of has messianic overtones as the hopeful humans seek it out.
>>
>>18404438
Somehow scientists found out the Transformation Animal communicated purely via telepathy so even if they did find it there would be a huge barrier.

So they created this test tube baby named Timmy who they genetically engineered to be a telepath.

Timmy, who at the time of his expedition to commune with the Animal looked to be about 10 or 12 with emotional maturity of a much younger child due to his stunted upbringing I guess.

Finally the Transformation Animal is located and Timmy is sent to commune with it. The Animal wastes no time telling Timmy that with some species, it's just their time to shuffle off. Humans will die off and it will not offer any assistance to change this outcome. It leaves off with Timmy going into a panic attack due to the existential horror of finding out his entire fucking life function is a colossal waste of time and money.
