I've always heard it's like giving yourself schizophrenia, but i've always heard that autistic people can't get schizophrenia. So either it's not really like schizophrenia, autistic people can't get tulpas, or autistic people can actually get schizophrenia. Ancient Buddhists were the first to come up with the practice of creating tulpas. It was done as part of their training and they were told little except how to do it.

Those that viewed their tulpas as dieties were cast out and abandoned to live life in the delusion of believing you had a god following and talking to you. From what I understand it becomes pretty horrifying.
