Consider that due to relativistic time dilation, other planets might experience an entirely different rate of time from those on Earth. So the idea of a breakaway group of Nordics leaving in the 1900s, then returning generations later as "aliens from another world" aren't actually mutually exclusive possibilities.

This is the supreme mind fuck that actualized interstellar space travel is going to have on people, when it's revealed. Are they aliens from another world, or are they humans?

Earth might just be a backwater jungle. Maybe humans already have expanded into space, and set up functional civilizations on extraterrestrial worlds. And why haven't we heard of it? Well.

They fucking told us, and who believed them? The other day, a guy posted how a flying disc came near his village when he was younger, and everybody started freaking out. The girls started crying. He took a gun and SHOT AT IT? WTF?

We're like, the deep rural midwest of the interstellar human societies. When they come down in their fancy flying cars, and tell us where they've been, we go "Pfffft, that's not true. Here's an idea--maybe humans have been in space for a VERY long time. And they just never told us, because, well. They actually fucking did.
