The clowns were bull. I'm from the carolinas and live right on the edge of the woods, haven't seen any.

It started as a joke in one city, was reported on, got big by shitty click bait top 10 youtube videos and then blew up thanks to social media. This shit started almost a year ago, it grew as halloween got closer.
It was literally a meme, like planking. The difference was people took it to far by trying to scare people by carrying machetes and shit, to which gun toting idiots reacted to by shooting on sight. And to keep themselve out of trouble claimed they were being "attacked."
Which blew it up even bigger by turning every sighting into an "attempted attack."
There was a case in my town where they shut down a school for a couple days because a clown was making threats on some students facebook profiles that he was gonna come rape and kill him.
Turned out to be a fellow student fucking around trying to be funny.
