I found a floppy disk in my dead cousin's house. He was arrested last may for something he never was allowed to talk about involving computers. Released last month and hanged himself on Tuesday night.
Anyway, all of his electronics and storage media were wiped or otherwise physically destroyed. There was one intact floppy and I pulled the contents off of it. I'm going to dump everything on it, maybe you guys can help me make some sense of it.
Thanks in advance, /x/. I can't figure any of this out.
Dump starts now.
Just put it in a zip file and post that, dude

I guess I could, but in the time it'll take me to figure out how to do that, I can just dump the rest here. There's not much.
Cool story bro

>I found a floppy disk in my dead cousin's house.
Cousin is a super-hacker, stores data on floppy disks.
>>18324314
don't underestimate the floppies

not paranormal...

>>18324312
don't think i wanna know obv your cousin was into cp
>>18324266
Well, the first thing I noticed is that these, curiously, are all in .png, not .gif like you would expect. Meaning they had to have been made long after floppies became obsolete.
Secondly, what floppy drive do you use?
You've got to be one of the about twelve people on planet earth who still has one of those, so before I put any more effort into these pictures of yours I want a timestamped photo of your drive.
>>18324420
This, most likely. Would explain the arrest and subsequent suicide.
>>18324427
this
>>18324266
>>18324427
png were used way back in the 90s tho, and what you're posting looks like average clip art.
Sorry for your loss OP; I hope you find something good.
>>18324427
>Secondly, what floppy drive do you use?
>You've got to be one of the about twelve people on planet earth
Heh, you people. 2 of my computers have floppy drives, and I still use them (3rd if I count the win98 one in my storage). Not the floppys, those are only for start discs, but the computers. Internet is a bit slow but playing older games is perfect.
>>18324427
image files are very large for a floppy disk.
>>18325360
4 - 24KB isn't large.
This is shit
>>18325410
>4 - 24KB isn't large.
Well, yeah, but the most common disc held 1.44 MB.
You personally have tons of files/pics saved right now that just one of them wouldn't even fit on that. That OP's elite hacker cousin was storing state secrets on a floppy of any size is laughable.
>>18325491
That image looks familiar, but I can't place it. Makes me think of the Sandman comics. What's it from?
>>18325656
Reminds me of the CARET linguistic analysis primer.

Timestamp pics or didn't happen

You do know the US still uses a disc format even older than floppys for their most secure areas? The codes for nuclear are supposedly stored on 5,3 inch disc or tapes from the early 80s, and they have no network connections on those computers. All this to make it harder for people to steal them.
A french airport was recently found to be running win95 on a computer of the same age, because the newer programs were "worse" in their view so they never replaced it.
>>18326813
>supposedly
The "code" can be memorized, and isn't as far as I'm aware stored on any physical media other than a couple of human brains. IF they have floppies for other high-security stuff it makes infinitely more sense to have them as proprietary rather than old standards. If you're capable of stealing one of those discs you can easily find a reader as well.
Oh, and tapes are by no means outdated, they're used for backup by large entities all the time, since tape has the longest life expectancy of any digital storage.

>>18326840
Ya'll motherfuckers missing the point.
Pics and timestamp or didn't happen.
>>18326856
It was in a newspaper, why dont you use google instead of expecting spoonfeeding.
And for the anon questioning if I know how much a floppy can store, I still have some for backup of documents and jpg images. Floppys were still made until last year when the last manufacturer decided to stop, so obviously there are many people who still have drives. It's not like I use a lot of them but I have around 20 new ones in my closet and 10 with files on, considering they don't wear out from just being stored those will probably last for the lifetime left of those computers anyway.
>>18327462
What's in the newspaper? Something that can't be found without more details beyond "tech-related crime in May", right?
>>18327462
>lol I could easily post proof but I'll let you google it instead even though the only info I gave you is that some guy on some country killed himself and was probably involved in a crime related to computers
Roleplayers can't be this retarded
>>18324266
Pretty shit story desu famalam. 4/10. Too vague. Too forced.
You're trying so hard to make it sound believable that you're getting basic things wrong.. like how the law actually works.
Again, 4/10. Next time put a little effort in. Research the subject.
>>18327535
>Roleplayers can't be this retarded
It's true
>>18327462
>they don't wear out from just being stored
News Flash: they do. The glue of the magnetic coating degrades. And, ofc, the material itself dies. Not mentioning the magnetic Information on the floppy itself.
Stupid never goes out of Style as it seems.
>>18326856
I agree, pics and timestamps Mrs Clinton lol
>>18327462
Burden of proof, moron.
>>18327535
This
>It was in the paper gosh can't you read
>>18327512
>>18327535
He's saying the story of the French airport using Win95 was in the newspaper, not OP's bullshit story of his cousin's arrest and suicide. Reading comprehension, people.
>>18324427
>You've got to be one of the about twelve people on planet earth who still has one of those,
Look for floppy drives on Amazon and shit bricks. You'd be surprised how many people still use them.
>>18324266
Lemme get this straight. You copied a disk without payin'?
