Greetings my fellow /x/ aficionados!
I'm overseeing a group of Peace Corps trainees in West Africa. And all these hard-working young people, thousands of miles from home, want for Halloween is to have the shit scared out of them. And I need your help to do it!
I'm looking for horror movie suggestions. And not just any old, run of the mill shock fest. I need stuff as brutal as Martyrs and as polished as Baskin. Something as genuine as the original Blair Witch Project and as beautifully fucked as The Fly.
No schlock, no horror-comedy, no "wink wink, isn't this cute" kind of stuff. I need movies that are hard to sit through and that haunt you for days. Ideally in English.
I thank you. The trainees thank you. And the Peace Corps thanks you.
Cannibal Holocaust, might be too dated for younger audiences.
But it sounds like you want to show them a bunch of shitty torture-porn ala Hostel.

Really trying to avoid torture porn, and other stuff where the shocking imagery is all there is to be "scared" of. Shocking imagery is definitely a plus, but there has to be some substance to it.
That's why I referenced Martyrs. To me, it's not the torture part that's really unsettling. It's the fridge horror of being locked in the dark like that, suffering, for years.

>hardworking

Noroi: The Curse is a good Japanese found footage type movie. The Thing and the first Alien movie are classics. Audition is another good one.
Or if you really want to scare them just lead them outside of whatever little safezone you're and leave them for a few hours
