Not the guy you responded to but I hear people's paranoia of it occasionally. When rats contract toxoplasma, they develop interesting behavioral changes in them. Notably that they do not experience a fear response to cats and in fact will willingly approach spots of cat urine, making them easier targets for the cat (which might have get toxoplasma until it eats said rats). The weird behavioral changes in the rats suggest that the parasite is actually capable of manipulating it's host's actions once it's been contracted. It's a proven phenomenon amongst rats but the possibility exists that it could affect human's behavior as well.

Some people even go as far as to theorize that, like the rat, humans infected with the parasite do abnormal things but those abnormalities often are ones that benefit the cats, essentially making you care for or obsess over the little fuckers more than you normally might.

Also, I guess I'm bias because I hate dogs. I've always had cats. And every cat of mine has been an "indoor" / "outdoor" cat. They use dog doors and shit just like any other animal. I almost never had to clean the litterbox and chilled out with my companions every morning before work and they'd climb over the fence and jump on my hood when I came home. Stayed indoors about 12-14 hours a day. Only bad thing is one of my two cats got hit by a car at age 3, my other is going on 6 now and we take her on hikes and everything, she just follows along nicely, they both were harness trained so we leash em up and they are very cool about it. People get all weirded out and say "are you walking a cat?" I always say, "no a cat's walking with us."

Funny thing is I let them run free 90% of the time and they just come and go whenever through the dog door or an open window. Keep them up to date on shots, get them neutered, feed them.

Dogs are WAY more maintenance that that. Cats basically take care of themselves.

It's not that rare. Male calicos are exceptionally rare because in order to be calico a cat needs two X chromosomes, hence why you won't see a male calico unless it has Klinefelter's syndrome or something similar.
All cats have a base coat of either red, black, or calico/tortoiseshell and the red and black genes both attach to the X chromosome. A female with red on one X and black on the other will be tortoiseshell. For a female cat to be black (or ginger or brown or any other non-tortoiseshell color) she just needs two copies of the black gene instead of the one a male cat would need. Gray cats, yellow cats, brown tabbies, etc are all just black or red cats with various dilute or marking genes.
