If youre interested in "monster of the week" episodes yes, they base off their cases mostly on real life legends, cryptids and so on.

If youre interested in a large scale mythos, it also provides that along with the ayys who are pretty much the basis for the series. The mythos does fall off somewhat however during a couple of late seasons where the protagonist casts off but it does pick up and concludes in the last season.
As a bonus there are a couple of films as well as comic material you could use as fillers, plus a "revival-esque" 5 episode season taking place many years later which serves more as a nostalgic journey of that world and the heroes.

TLDR overall it's worth it, but it does have a few dark spots. Among the best of the genre.

100% yes, but don't feel bad if you can't make it through seasons 8-9. The series really drops off aside from some choice episodes.
