What happends is not some sort of punishment, like hell or something like that. What happens is a response to your actions, that's all. The suicidal person doesn't want to live anymore, but death is a complete transformation. If you don't let this desire not to live behind, it can drag on to the next existence and make it a bad thing, like going to a trip you don't want to go. If not, if you are somehow excited to the next existence, you'll do ok.

I'm torn, like it's one of two things.

You cease to exist, there is nothingness, no 'you', no experience, that's it, which means you won't be punished, you can only be punished if you still exist in some form, so if you truly stop existing, completely, that's it. If you can't continue to percieve anything, how would you know you've made a mistake. If you believe you turn to nothing, there is nothing to be afraid of when it comes to suicide, because you won't exist to know you've made a mistake.

Or you continue to exist in some for, or you come back, karma, samsara, whatever. But if you come back in some form, then there truly is nothing to worry about with suicide, you will still 'exist' because you can't really die, you become aware that your suicide is ultimately meaningless.
