Porto Seguro/Bahia spoops are probably too much for you, gringo, and often hard or dangerous to get to. Too many slaves died all around town, The historic downtown is crowded with appearances. There are candomblé, voodoo, umbanda, kimbanda, and more African-related religions that have hair-raising rituals open to public though, so you can start there. Just avoid the too popular places, like Mãe Menininha.
