Anyone that's had to deal with a waterlogged corpse can see the hallmarks of one. This one has been in there a while. Corpses initially bloat to hell, but after a bit...Eyes are gone, most likely the gut has already ruptured, the body takes on an emaciated look, and the fur sloughs off.

You can even see where the nose had been the sorta 'puffy' of a wombat, but has since cracked and decayed back.I wonder if this was initially on dry land and got knocked into water or vice versa. Kinda has that look.
Water is probably high in tannin. That slows decomposition and sometimes preserves the body.
