As a reader I can say that, yes, it is a lot more convenient and reasonable to announce you are reading and then have people reply to you. It does show that the querent is still present, and on top of that, many readers require their own set of information from a querent.

It takes a lot of time and energy to read and there are a lot of people who want readings. Usually many more than the reader is able to provide for. It would be silly to search through a thread to answer every air query when that person might not even bother to come around to read your response to them.

If those air-querying querents do happen to still around, they can just reply their query to the reader's post. That's the most reasonable system.
