Songs/bands with creepy backstories thread. Sarah McLachlan's "Possession" was inspired by two of her fans who believed that they were in a relationship with her. One of the fans was Uwe Vandrei, a man from Ottawa who sued McLachlan in 1994 claiming that the song was based on one of his love poems that he sent her. The lawsuit didn't go anywhere though since he committed suicide later that year.

joan jett wrote a song about a girl who gets stalked on her way home, and has to fight off a rapist, I cant think of the name but it was based on Mia Zappata, a Seattle grunge musician who was raped and murdered

Apparently it was long rumored that the song is about the Church of Satan, but that's definitely a stretch.
